I am not a Wiccan or a Satanist, but I wanted to offer a point or two. First, Don H says satanists purpose is simply "to make fun of Christians." He needs to do a little research before he makes a comment.
There are satanists of course who just want to make fun of Christianity, but there are also Christians who simply make fun of Christianity (or at least appear to). There are also many sincere and devoted Satanists. My understanding is theirs is more a worship of nature than of Satan. I think "satanism" is just a catchy name and an adolescent attention getter.
I have know several Wiccans, and have a lot of respect for them and their beliefs. I think their philosophy is much more reasonable than most religions, particularly the more extreme fringes of the various religions. I also believe it is much more healthy than religions that tend to control thier followers (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, etc.). Having said that, I don't believe in their "Goddess" any more than I believe in the Christians' "God" (although I certainly don't discount that belief or God's existence).
Wiccans worship nature and natural forces, which logic tells us is responsible for everything that is and everything that happens, considering that we humans are a part of the natural world too. I think their mistake (assuming it is one), like that of most religions, is to personalize those forces into a God, gods, or a Goddess.

I'm going to answer this, but I'm not really a Wiccan or Satanist. To be a Wiccan I have to follow their Laws. To be a Satanist I have to follow the Satanic Ethical system or believe that Satan is in fact a real entity, but I do like the left hand paths or a better word the path of 'disorder'. I find that Satanism is the only religion that respects and treasures knowledge and freedom. I like the sinister Gods. They bring balance into the world. The Gods like Zeus, Jehovah, Ra etc. is very demanding and needs their followers to give up their individuality in other words they must deny who they are to be 'loved' by these deities. Deities like the Devil, Set, Typhon, Eris etc. is all for freedom and existence. It's not about dreams of a better place after you die, it's about making the 'here and now' a better place and to worry about the after life when you get there. Satanism is a pretty modern religion, before Anton Levay created the religion, Satanism was just a myth created by the Church people (If they don't have an enemy they will create mythical one) so Satanists decided to make use of this myth and completely changed it to serve as a religion of human freedom, psychic knowledge, and rebellion against the oppression religion causes in the world.
BTW, Wicca is a right-hand path/order, Satanism is a left-hand path/disorder BIG DIFFERENCE!

First off Satanists and Wiccans do not have anything to do with one another. Wiccans don't believe in Satan, so you shouldn't use them together. Secondly, Wiccans believe in NATURE. Satanists believe in making fun of Christians and controlling everything including other humans...controling people is strictly against Wiccan's beliefs.
As far as why I was attracted to Wicca? It is because I am tired of some religion telling me what to do and how to behave. Wiccans come with only one rule:
If you don't harm anyone, do what you want. What ever you send out, it will come back 3 times back to you...which is exactly you don't try to control someone else, but this is not a rule because it tells you your consequences.
It is a peaceful, beautiful religion that doesn't control you and what you do in life.

"What's in it for me"?
The same as "what's in it" for any other spiritual path - a connection with Deity that I find comforting.
I sought the knowledge for myself, but I didn't realize it's what I was looking for until I found it. I came to my own conclusions about spirituality after leaving Christianity, and eventually discovered that there was a religion that shared most of the beliefs that I had arrive at on my own - Wicca.
Since LaVeyan Satanism doesn't have a belief in a Deity ("Satan" is not an independent entity that they worship), I couldn't speak for "what's in it" for Satanists.

Satanist is occult for people who have no idea what the world is about!! I am neither but I follow a path that is somewhat shared by one of my very close friends, they introduced me to it. By that I mean they said here is a good book..read it...take what you want from it. Now I work with forum sites with people that share the same interest and I sort of walk my own path. I wouldn't say that sometimes my path doesn't get stress full and tiring but I think it is well worth it.

the entire component only appears like a grouping of stereotypes to me. i'm no longer particular who this mag is meant to be tartet in the route of, yet being a Goth and a Wiccan, i'd not go with to ascertain this.

Why do you lump wiccans in with someone who's only purpose is to make fun of Christians.
