You don't swear on anything.
My understanding is, you affirm under oath now.
Much better system.

Don't worry, God is not in the Justice System anymore, they might as well throw the book out anyways. The Justice system is all corrupt, and mostly on the side of the criminals anyway. Swear on your own self that you are being truthful and honest, to the best of your ability. The fix is in, in the justice system.

Two schools of thought exist concerning this question. The first is the Randian school (popularized by author Ayn Rand). In this school individuals are motivated by a desire to achieve. They are responsible for their actions and the consequences of those actions. They are motivated by individual factors alone. The second school is that of major religion. This school believes that if one does not believe in God/religion they will burn in hell for all of eternity. Believers of this school feel people should be motivated by salvation and admittance into heaven, following the word of God, and living as a disciple.
The court aspect of the question is more difficult. I feel that as a US citizen we should swear on a copy of the Constitution. That would symbolize our dedication to our nation's history and laws. We would be pledging our allegiance to upholding freedoms of our society and being true to the wishes of our founding fathers.

You don't swear on anything. You solemnly affirm and swear formally to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

I believe you're able to swear on your name if you're an atheist.
I'd just swear on a bible and not make the effort. I mean are Christians unable to lie after swearing on a bible? I don't think so. Its a pretty pointless gesture.

Last time I went to court, I swore on the one thing that the court didn't have...
Dr. Seuss.
That delayed the court date by 6 days.

If you have no religion, first, that's not good, because you need to have a foundation for your human life. But I do not swear when testifying in court. Simply, affirm. Say "I affirm". You do not have to place your hand on the bible when doing so. Hope this helps.

You swear a personal solemn oath.
If you perjure yourself the penalty is the same under the law.
