Are they truly upset or are they trying to manipulate you?

Often the last I fear... I guess sometimes they're genuinly taken by surprise that you said no, had expected a yes and had counted on it... but even then it's their problem for relying on you without checking! In many cases they're probably trying to manipulate you, especially in work situations. That's life...

They are trying to manipulate you. Basically, they are users. They want you to feel sorry for them. If you were to ask them for a favor they would have every excuse in the book not to do it, or they would just ignore you.

Trying to manipulate you.Because if I were to ask for a favor and they weren't able to help me out I would certainly understand.

Even if they are truly upset, which I think they will be if they are egoistical and think people should do whatever they ask them to do, you should ignore them and don't let it make you change your mind. When you say "No" mean it.

They are selfish! They would probably not do the same favor for you if you were in their position.
