Nutro is a much, much better food than science diet. No by-products and no BHA, BHT and ethoxyquin preservatives. Make the switch, you'll be happier in the long run with a healthier dog.
the first ingredients in SD puppy food? Corn, by-product meal, soybean and pork fat!!

I fed my German Shepherd Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice and she did very well on it. Contrary to popular belief, Nutro still has some fillers (corn products) in it, but there is much less than in Science Diet, Eukanuba, or Iams.
A really great dog food that has no fillers at all is Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul pet food. Wellness is another great brand, as is Solid Gold, California Natural, and Barking at the Moon. You may have to visit a specialty pet shop for these, because I don't think Petco carries them. Sure, they are more expensive than a generic store brand, but not too much more than the Science Diet you were already feeding them. Here's another thing I discovered: Royal Canin really isn't all that bad, and it's readily available in most large pet stores. You have to check the labels (some formulations contain more grains than others, and you really want to find a food where the first couple of ingredients are meat-based) but it's easier to get than most of the other brands I listed, and is better than Science Diet for sure.
Hope this helps...

Nutro is a very good food, far better than Science Diet. Some dogs find lamb too rich, so just be aware of that, if he develops the runs. if this happens switch to another flavour of the same brand. Be sure to change foods gradually, adding a bit more of the new food every day, until he is eating only the new kind.

Nutro is a very good food, but it is also very expensive. How big is your dog going to get and what is your dog food budget?
I usually use Diamond or Sport Mix lamb and rice. Same ingredients and almost identical crude protein/fat/etc., but much cheaper. My dogs all do great on it. But I don't think those brands make lamb and rice puppy, so you may want to stick to Nutro for a year if you can afford it.

My dog is on Nutro Large Breed Puppy. She loves it! The cost can be kinda sucky, but if you go to their website, you can sign up for coupons and stuff. I even got a coupon for a free bag of food, and a package of coupons that were like 2 dollars off and stuff. You could also look around for better deals. I know at Petsmart, they are on sale right now (for about $20 for a 20lb bag). I get my bag from the commissary for $13, so if you know someone in the military or something, you could prolly have them buy it for you too.
But my dog's coat has gotten a lot shinier, and she looks overall more healthy. =)

Yes. My daughter-in-law who is an avid dog- lover gave me a bag for my dog. It was well tolerated; and the dog liked it. It is supposed to be a very good quality food. Not cheap.

i fed it to one of my dogs and he did well on it. it's better than science diet but there are definitely better foods. i feed my puppy royal canin cause i heard it was the best food you can find at petco or petsmart. canidae, innova and chicken soup for the dog lover's soul are top of the line foods i think. i think you can only find them at smaller, independent stores.
