A sort of big rulegiver, with emotions, who cares about what happens to people?

I just can't get that- seems to be wishful thinking! I'm spiritual but I could never believe that God was basically a superman. Much more likely to be an energy or just everything.

I used to think God just made up rules to see if we would follow them. That's not God at all! He doesn't want to see us hurt or to hurt others this is why he said, Don't lie, don't murder, don't sleep with anyone else's wife, Love God, don't worship idols, etc.

These keep us safe and happy. He created us and knows what makes us happy and brings us strife. God IS love. He loves us so much that he sent his own son to suffer and die for us.
38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[m] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God has emotions. He has wrath. He has love. He has mercy, compassion...the list goes on. Where's the proof? God didn't need humans. He created us so that He would have someone to love and return His love. I doubt an "energy" would create something as complex as man just for the fun of it.

I do...God has four main attributes, power, justice, wisdom and love.
(POWER)
Isaiah 40:26: "“Raise YOUR eyes high up and see. Who has created these things? It is the One who is bringing forth the army of them even by number, all of whom he calls even by name. Due to the abundance of dynamic energy, he also being vigorous in power, not one [of them] is missing."

(JUSTICE)
Psalms 37:28: "28 For Jehovah is a lover of justice,
And he will not leave his loyal ones.
To time indefinite they will certainly be guarded;
But as for the offspring of the wicked ones, they will indeed be cut off.

(WISDOM)
Romans 11:33: "33 O the depth of God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How unsearchable his judgments [are] and past tracing out his ways [are]!

(LOVE)
1 John 4:8: "He that does not love has not come to know God, because God is love."

The Bible also says this about God...
Exodus 34:6: "6 And Jehovah went passing by before his face and declaring: “Jehovah, Jehovah, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving-kindness and truth,"

And as for rulegiver, yes, he certainly has set guidelines for his children, just as a loving Father would, so that we might learn how to live in a way that will bring not only his happiness, but ours as well.

Isaiah 48: 17 & 18: "This is what Jehovah has said, your Repurchaser, the Holy One of Israel: “I, Jehovah, am your God, the One teaching you to benefit [yourself], the One causing you to tread in the way in which you should walk. 18 O if only you would actually pay attention to my commandments! Then your peace would become just like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea."

Psalms 1:1 & 2: "1 Happy is the man that has not walked in the counsel of the wicked ones,
And in the way of sinners has not stood,
And in the seat of ridiculers has not sat.
2 But his delight is in the law of Jehovah,
And in his law he reads in an undertone day and night.

God is the Almighty God who is our creator and He is a ruler. He does care about people, and He gives us guide lines so we can live right and not get hurt. But we are all sinners and do not choose to obey His guidlnes, and therefore we will have to live with the results of disobeying. But thankfully we have Jesus to took our sins to the cross with Him and through our repenting of our sins, they are forgiven. praise the Lord!

If there is a God, I have a hard time believing he actually has anything in common with human beings.

I believe God is my Heavenly Father with all my heart and there's nothing anyone can do or say to convince me otherwise.
