I right everything down on the calender from doctors appointments to sports and even when there is no school. I always know what's going on each day.
I put things away after I don't need them out anymore. I teach my kids to do this too so the house don't look like a tornado went through it. I work part time so when I'm not working I choose a chore to do each day. Like mondays I vacuum and maybe tuesday I mop and wednesday take out trash etc.
I also do laundry every day so I don't get behind. I wash at least one load every day.
When I go shopping I always have a list so I dont' forget anything.

Check out flylady.com.
Basically I just try to stick to a schedule. Monday I work on the laundry, I spend most of my chore time getting caught up on washing, drying, folding.
Tue I do the bathrooms
Wed I do a good kitchen clean, etc.
Meals are a big thing to have planned at my house. I TRY to sit down on Sunday and figure out what we are having for dinner on Mon and Wed. I shop at the grocery based on what I need to make 2 big meals, with leftovers from those meals getting us by on opposite days. Of course I am human and do a frozen pizza or something simple one night of the week.
I also try to always have a few meals frozen for the times I am not in the mood to make a meal.
Schedule- As far as remembering appointments, I suck at this. So, to help, I did something drastic. I painted a door in my kitchen with chalkboard paint (you can get it at a hardware store) On Monday I write out everything that needs to be done (Dr. Appointments, playdates, etc.) Now I don't need to look at the calendar anymore and since the schedule is HUGE and in my face I don't forget things anymore.
Good luck, start small and simple and as you gain more confidence and master different parts of running the home it will all get so much easier. You can do it!

Get one of those big calendars (I bought one at the $ Tree the other day) and put it up and keep track of doctor's appointments, playgroups, when bills need to be mailed. Also on Excel create lists. 1 for the fridge to mark down things as you use them up, same with the freezer, and pantry. Tape the list to the inside of the panty/cupboard door, and use a magnet to put the other ones on the fridge and freezer doors. Also one for the bathrooms for toiletry items, like soap, shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste. I have a calendar in my bathroom and mark down when I buy my toothbrushes so I can replace them.

Create your own daily routine. What works for me might not work for you. I also use the calander but mostly my cel phone scheduler with an alarm to remind me & a note about what it's reminding me to do! lol I had help from my obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd) friend. She did wonders for me. She is a clean freak! Got me motivated. Call one of your friends up who are like that & tell her you need her help getting you into a routine. My friend came over every day til I got my own routine down. I sure do miss her! I moved 2 hours away from her. Good luck!
