Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

Faith comes from hearing God's word. Faith is having God's word for something, accepting that word, and doing what God says to do in the way God says to do it. Faith trusts God and His word.

Assumption comes from ones own reasoning. Assumption comes when there is a lack of knowledge or where there is no word in an area, so you use your own reasoning to fill in the blanks. Where the word does not say, or where you don't know what the word says, people assume things to be right or wrong. This is not faith. Assumptions trust ones own conclusions.

When someone comes to an assumption, it is information based on what they heard but never learned fully, but still use that little tiny bit of information to explain their beliefs of others' ideas about certain things, whereas faith in something is learned or forced into the mind at a young age.
