Sorry to hear that you think your dental staff is giggling about your blab... I give my patients a rinse after the injections to get the bad tast out of their mouth. Our office has suctions that you can close your mouth around like a straw to spit in. If you are in question about if the cavities are real I would seek out a nother dentist.

Go to dental school if you want to diagnose cavities... and by the way, many cavities that are VERY real do not show up on dental X-rays. The water is given to you for YOUR comfort because of the horrible taste of the local anesthetic. If you'd rather not have the water, why wouldn't you say something while you're in the chair? If you're wondering what is and what isn't a cavity, why don't you say something to the DENTIST that diagnosed them? You can try going to another dentist because of it, but I think you'll find that almost all dentists ask their assistants to do that.

I work for a dentist. I know that the reason we always give it to our kids (it's a pediatric office) is that the local anesthetic we inject tastes really bad. Some of it leaks out when the needle goes in and out of the different injection sites so we always ask if the patient wants a drink. But we ask first, and we try really hard not to laugh. Plus at our office the water normally ends up back on us. You should try coughing and spraying it back on your dentist next time, make it look like an innocent accident...

I'm a dentist.

We give you the water because both the topical anesthetic we use on your soft tissues FOR YOUR COMFORT prior to giving you the injection, as well as the lidocaine in the injection both taste horrible, and we want to spare you the discomfort of tasting these medications.

If you're that untrusting of dentists, don't make appointments with us.

I do that too when I have to drink water. You can't really control your mouth. He shouldn't be laughing at you though. You should ask him to point out the cavity in the x-ray and see for your self these "cavity's"
