This is an umbilical hernia. The vet will watch it closely and if it does not heal properly, the pup can have it surgically corrected when the dog is spayed or neutered. Don't mess with it. This is not a reputable breeder! Filling your head with nonsense!

It is an umbilical hernia. This is common in snub-nosed breed dogs. They will chew the umbilical cord too short and the hernia appears when the dog is about 6 weeks old. Many times, the hernia closes itself. Other times, it doesn't. You can have the hernia fixed for about $100 - $150 depending on the vet. It usually is nothing to worry about. Unless the intestines get caught in the hernia. But that is rare and the hernia would have to be large. Good luck with this. If you have any more questions, feel free to e-mail me. I have done a lot of research on the umbilical hernias.
It is NOT genetics! That is just COMPLETE ignorance by people who have done absolutely NO research! Here is a link for more information:

\A reputable breeder would already have had the pup at the vet to check on what is the problem behind the bump. Pressing it in everyday is quite a joke.
Reputable breeders normally keep their pups til twelve weeks of age and would never sell a pup that showed any sign of a medical condition without first having it corrected and also being honest with the prospective owner about it.
Run as fast as you can from this breeder. Call a vet you intend to use to find a good breeder.
Also, go to http://www.dogs.about.com
for information on how to find a reputable breeder.
Good Luck. Don't give this breeder any money, as this will just be more incentive for her to remain an irresponsible breeder.

It is an umbilical hernia. It was not caused by the mom doing anything, they just happen mostly due to genetics. The muscle wall did not form completely. This breeder is obviously not very smart and should not continue to breed the pair causing these. You veterinarian can fix it when you take your dog to be spayed. As for poking it daily, just leave it alone. Poking it every day is more likely it irritate it.

It's a hernia, and the breeder sounds like a backyard breeder. This is a term to refer to people who breed dogs, but have not done enough research on their breed. Poking on it will irritate it, and if it doesn't go away, she'll have to get surgery. Although it's not that big of a deal, I'd find another breeder. You want someone who can give you honest answers, and this person sounds like they just wanna make a quick buck.

Hi,
Yes sometimes they do go away on their own. Its a hernia actually. I always have it taken care of if its not gone in a few months at the same time I spay or neuter my puppy.

It does usually go away but if it doesn't your dog might need surgery to correct it. My dog had a hernia surgery. The Vet had said it might go away and when it didn't he surgically corrected it. It was no big deal, she was fine after that.

The seller is correct. It usually is nothing to worry about, but I would suggest to have the puppy vet checked BEFORE you actually purchase it.
