my baby had the 3 in 1 crib and at 18 months i removed her bed so that it would be just the toddler part and she has been fine ever since and feels like a big girl...she doesn't fall out or anything...they say u should wait until the baby hits 30 lbs. to change it to the toddler part, but i did it anyway and she was just 23 lbs. your baby will most likely like it the way without the rails.

I think it depends on you - my friend put her son in a bed at 16 months and every morning she went in and he was asleep on the floor. My eldest daughter was in a bed at 18 months but I was so worried I bought a bed rail. My youngest daughter is 18 months and she is still in her cot and I am in no rush to take the sides off.

do you think your toddler will be happy in a bed and will you? If she is still happy in the cot leave her in it. my son was nearly 2 before i took the sides off his cot bed. If your planing on getting her into a bed so you can use the cot for the new baby i wouldnt advise it. when my youngist was born he slept in the cot with the sides off so we got him a new bed and gave new baby his bed. He played up and paddied until we got new baby a cot and got rid off the old cot [he had out grown his cot bed by then though].

One afternoon, I was sitting downstairs as my little 16 month old was taking her nap, or so I thought. All of a sudden, I hear this huge THUMP, followed by a high-pitched, very irritated yelp.
Well, as you can guess, she had climbed out of her crib (she had never been a climber, so this was way out of the blue - I am not sure which one of us was more freaked out by the incident!). That pretty much ended my crib time. She never slept in one again.
That night she slept on a mattress on the floor. A few weeks later we moved her to a twin bed with a rail. She has been there ever since!

My daughter was 15 months when we moved her into a bed-but we had a soft rail on the side of it. The health visitor said it was too early, but in her cot she kept rolling over and hitting the bars, which would wake her up. From night one in her new bed,she slept great! (And so did we!) Just be sure to include a familiar blanket and snuggly toy to make her feel comfortable.

I moved my daughter into her bed at about 18 months, but still slept with side guards till about 3, but mainly because she is a little worm when she sleeps, obviously each child is different, but at least with a side guard you don't have to worry about them falling out of bed at night... I do agree with moving them into a "proper bed" a soon as you feel they are ready normally about 18 months., i would say. You could always ask your pediatricians advise, but at the end of the day us mums do what we want regardless.... Good Luck

My first son was 2 1/2 years old, and my 2nd son was 2 years old, but my friends son was 14 months old. I dont see a problem with whatever age, as long as you put a bedguard on the side so she cant fall out.
It doesnt matter what everyone elses opinion is, what works for you, is right for you!
Good luck!

you of course know your child best,so if your child is a good walker ,safety first ,cot bed maybe too high with side down ,or catch foot between opening,if you are really sure why not buy new single bed,buy gate, and check room for potential danger, plugs ,small parts of toys, etc .anything you know you wouldnt leave them with by themself.because they dont always cry when they wake up,especially if they can explore instead. The choice is yours.is there any rush? baby will probably be in their baby crib for a while in your room?

Hi, We all have our own magic when it comes to putting out Lil angels in to a big boys/girls bed!! I have 2 kids, one is 7 and the other is 2. The fist one was 13months when i put him in a bed, i did this because he was having major hissy fits every time i put him to bed, to start with i had to lay with him till he was asleep, then over a week or so i moved my self further and further away till eventually he would just go down, this did take some persistence tho, he did try to get out on occasions, but i would just put hI'm straight back. As for the second, i put him in a bed at the age of 2 ( he is 2 and 7 months now)! I put him down and he got up, this went on for a couple of days, i just kept putting him back and saying " its time for bed now, night night".. He tends to stay in his bed when i put him down now, but does try to test me sometimes to see if he can ween his way down stairs. Good luck, im sure with everybodys advice you can piece together your own little plan!! Good luck x
