Where do the accent marks go in the Spanish words...?

esta, estas, estoy, estamos, and nosotros go? For a project! (Due Tomorrow) also sala, cuarto, dormitorio, garage, jardin, despacho, comedor, cocina, and patio. thank you so much!

you may want to get yourself an english/spanish dictionary. that would be the fastest way to figure this out. But to answer your question, accents on spanish words indicate where the syllabal stress needs to be. They do not appear on all words however. So you need to watch for that.

As for your list, jere goes.

esta - needs to be on the the a. as in como esta (how are you ?) note, there would also be an accent on first o of como.
estas - needs to be on the a. it is the same as esta, just differnt verb tense, it is more casual tense.
estoy - does not have accent
estamos - does not have accent.
nosotros - does not have accent.
sala - does not have accent
cuarto - does not have accent
dormitorio - does not have accent
garage - does not have accent
jardin - accent o the i
despacho - depends on the meaning. The verb meas to conclude. if you are using the verb despachar and conjugate for the I first person present tense, then no accent. However if it is past tense conjugation like he concluded something, it would require an accent on the o.
comedor - does not have accent
cocina - does not have accent
patio - does not have accent.

1. Esta can have the accent either in "e" or "a", it depends on the context. If you say "está" it means "it/he/she is" and if you say "ésta" it means "this one", in femenine form.
2. Estas: "éstas"= these one, "estás"= you are.
3. Estamos: it doesnt have ortographic accent (it means that you dont write the accent mark ´ ), the difference is only in the sound. In this case, the strong sound is in the "a"
4. Nosotros: it doesnt have ortographic accent either and the strongest sound (called acento prosódico) goes on the second "o")
5. Sala: first "a"
6. Cuarto: "a"
7. Dormitorio: second "o"
8. Garage: second "a"
9. Despacho: "a"
10 Comedor: last "o"
11. Cocina: "i"
12. Patio"a"

From the 4th to the last one, the words without accent mark, i only told you where the stong sound goes.

The only ones that need accents are: está, estás, and jardín. Also garage is spelled garaje.

In spanish if a word ends in a vowel or an "n" or an "s" the stressed syllable is on the second to last syllable. If a word ends in any of the other consonants the stess is on the last syllable. The only way to change this rule is to add an accent. Then the stress is on the accented syllable.

For example:

the word "esta" has the stress on the second to last syllable. It means "this."
"Esta casa es bella." = "This house is beautiful."

With an accent, it becomes "está" and the stress is on the last syllable because it has an accent. Now it means "he/she/it is"
"Ella está a casa." = "She is at home."
