You know - a place our souls inhabit for the millennia BEFORE we are born.

If you think there is no such place, why is it so hard to imagine that being dead might be just like things were before you were born?

All answers welcome.

Muslims do:

Although Islam rejects the notion of the soul's continuous rebirth, it does, however, recognize that the soul of each child came into existence prior to its birth on earth.
The Prophet (SAW) related that when Allah created Adam, He took a covenant from him in a place called Na'maan on the day of 'Arafah, then He extracted from him all of his descendants who would be born until the end of the world, generation after generation, and spread them out in front of Him in order to take a covenant from them also. He spoke to them face to face saying: "Am I not your Lord?" and they all replied, "Yes, we testify to it." Allah then explained why He had all of mankind bear witness that He was their creator and only true God worthy of worship. He said, "That was in case you (mankind) should say on the Day of Resurrection, "Surely we were unaware of all this. We had no idea that You, Allah, were our God. No one told us that we were only supposed to worship You." Allah went on to explain that it was also in case you should say: "It was our ancestors who made partners (with Allah) and we are only their descendants; will You, then destroy us for what those liars did?" This was the Prophet's (SAW) explanation of the Qur'anic verse.

This is an interesting and intelligent question. In order to answer the question, we have to understand the nature of the soul, the actual identity of the self.

In the Bhagavad-Gita, God Himself explains the nature of the soul:

"For the soul there is neither birth nor death at any time. He has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain. (2.20)

"The soul can never be cut to pieces by any weapon, nor burned by fire, nor moistened by water, nor withered by the wind. (2.23)

"This individual soul is unbreakable and insoluble, and can be neither burned nor dried. He is everlasting, present everywhere, unchangeable, immovable, and eternally the same. (2.24)

"It is said that the soul is ivisible, inconceivable and immutable. Knowing this, you should not grieve for the body" (2.25)

God is the source of all living souls. We are part and parcel of God, like sparks from a great fire. We have all of the qualities of God, but in minute quantity. If you take a spoon of water from the ocean, that spoon will have all of the qualities of the ocean, but it is not the ocean. Similarly, the individual living soul is but a spoonful of the great ocean that is God. We can never be God. Through God, the material existence is sometimes manifested, and sometimes not manifested, but God is always existing. An oak tree has many leaves, but sometimes the leaves are manifested, and sometimes they are not, but the oak tree is still existing.

If God is always existing, then the parts and parcels God are always existing.

"Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings, nor in the future shall any of us cease to be". (BG 2.12)

Anyone doesn't believe in a Before-Life because he or she hasn't learned about the karma law. If we all were God's sons and daughters, why have we been different from ourselves? What control and dispose human beings and make us love this one but hate that one.
The death is living beings' another form. We will go up to Heaven or will be reborn as a rich, talent person if we enjoy helping everybody to learn the karma law. And we will go down to Hell, hungry ghost, or animal kingdom, if we harm people.
there is not only Before-Life but also After-Life.

Some do. Back when I was a Christian I used to believe that Go created all the souls at the beginning of time. Much of that belief comes from books like Jeremiah were it says "I knew you before you were born".

Probably because we have no recollection of this existence. In the book of Job, the following is mentioned. " When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for you joy."

This is a possible mention of a pre-existing state of being. The
sons of God, are usually referred to as angels and men. Our finite minds do not have the capacity to understand all of the
creatures and beings that exist in the Heavenly realm. Nor the full understanding of Our Creator.

In matters of this complexity, we rely on faith, not on sight. Within the limits of our human nature, we cannot see God or these other beings without ceasing to exist because of their sheer power and beauty. No more than any of us could look into the splitting of an atom, without being destroyed or looking directly into sunlight without losing our sight.

Even Moses when he was on Mt. Sinai, was given certain conditions before he could approach the burning bush, one of the many manifestation of the Almighty.

Who said that believers did not believe in the soul's existance before we were born? This scripture in Genesis clearly states that God created us in His likness in his own image. This was done before we were born, because it wasn't until Genesis 2 that our souls were placed into a body.

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Study the Word of God yourself before you jump to usless conslusions about what believers believe in.

I believe there is; I believe that before you're born you are in Heaven, and whether you come back depends on a number of things; How you've lived, if you have maintained a belief in and servitude of Jesus and the Father, etc.

BECAUSE...."God breathed into Adam the breayh of life, and he became a living soul"Your soul is created for you at conception, and so it has a beginning.Without knowing I will live forever,I might as well go out and do all the drugs I can do...rape,steal,kill...What would it matter if I am just going to die and be gone ??
Your Idea is just not very well thought out.

You are on the right track. I can't say that your place would be the same bc your experiences here change you so much. I have asked myself why are we even here on Earth, why is Earth so important, its not like this is the only galaxy in the universe!!

I thought this was a great question. I starred it. Most answerers focused on Christians. I think Hindis, Buddhists, Islamics and other share these beliefs.
