I have the 300 mm lens, but my 55mm lens fell on the floor and is no longer usable... I want to get a replacement and have a few alternatives... what brands are compatible with a Canon EOS Rebel?

You can use all Canon lenses that include 'EF' or 'EFS' in the name or description.
You can also get third party lenses from Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc. These guys make lenses for several camera brands. Since every camera brand has its own lens mount system, you just have to be careful to get their 'for Canon' or 'EF' version.
Official Canon lenses are usually a bit more expensive but they're worth it.

Anything that fits the camera body, but some lenses are better then others. if you go to a camera store they would be able to show you some and give you ideas as to brands.

E-bay also has a bunch, and you can search by camera, not just lens size.
