If your symptoms are getting worse, talk to your doctor IMMEDIATELY!!! You could have some form of bipolar disorder, or some signs of it, where the antidepressant is actually making you worse. This is not uncommon. Antidepressants can make people with bipolar (or bipolar signs) suicidal when before they weren't. This is serious and you need to get help. Talk to your doctor about what you are going through and you might want to journal how your moods are to see if there is a pattern in your moods/behavior. Also, 20mg is a pretty low dose so it wouldn't take much to taper off and stop. Chances are you might need either a mood stabilizer or you might need nothing at all. But you really need to talk to a doctor about this, or get referred to a psychiatrist who will better be able to figure out what's going on.

I tried celexa too, and had very similar problems. First of all, you should make an appointment to see your doctor immediately. Also, most anti-depressants aren't effective until you've been taking them from 6 to 8 weeks which seems like an incredibly long time when ya can't think straight. Sometimes too low of a dose makes you feel worse than if you weren't taking anything at all. When I first started Welbutrin, I started at 50 mg and cried and shook all the time, but when I was put up to 100 mg I started to feel a lot better. Personally, I wasn't able to stay on Celexa long enough to find out if it could have been effective or not. The side-effects you're describing were way too intense for me to handle, my doctor took me off Celexa and put me back on my old antidepressant which didn't work great, but was better than nothing. I really hope you feel better soon, hang in there.

Celexa isn't for everyone and the Dr will tell you that a higher dosage may help, but the way I felt is the same. I just stopped taking it. Maybe try a lower dosage and see if that helps. You can cut the pills in half or quarters, and only take them as you need them. I feel for you and good luck!!

Talk to your doctor immediately. Not all meds work for all people. Celexa works wonderfully for me, but Wellbutrin made me want to kill people (terrible rage!) You may need to wait a little longer, combine meds, or switch meds completely, but only your doctor knows for sure.

I take it, and I have to say, it kicked in pretty quickly for me. You have to let your doctor know what you're experiencing. They don't put those "suicidal feelings may occur" warnings on the bottle for nothing. If you're feeling worse, please call your doctor NOW. I know it's Sunday, but they SHOULD have an answering service & nurse on call who can page the doctor if need be.
