Steamed White Rice

4 Servings 100% would make this recipe again

1 1/2 cup White rice 2 3/4 cup Water

This basic recipe is here primarily as a RecipeLink anchor. The ratio of white rice to water depends upon the brand of rice you choose. I use "Nikko Calrose" rice in most applications, because I prefer somewhat sticky, Japanese-style rice.

The ratio with this particular brand is just under two times as much water as rice. So, for 3 healthy sized servings, use about 1 cup rice, and just under 2 cups of water.

Place the rice in the rice cooker, then the water, then put the lid in, and flip the switch. In 20-25 minutes, you've got great tasting rice, perfectly cooked. I find it's best to let the rice rest for 5-10 minutes after

1) Use a heavy pot with a secure lid
2) ratio is usually 1 part rice & 2 parts water. I'll give you my ancient chinese secret; put the rice in the pot add, use the first line (joint) of your middle finger to measure the water line. Meaning, from the top of the rice line, the water line should be exactly at the line on your finger. (If this is too confusing, use the 2 to 1 ratio)
3) Set the flame on high until the water starts boiling.
4) reduce the flame to low and let the rice steam with the lid on for about 15 - 20 minutes.

Good luck

If you don't have a dedicated rice cooker:

Rinse rice in warm water, agitating with your fingers. This will help dislodge some of the talc powder that is often used on rice. Drain as much water as possible.

Place rice into a normal pot, make sure the size of the pot leaves a good deal of volume, since the rice will expand.

Put enough water in the pot so the level of the water is above the level of the rice by about a finger width.

Put on heat to get the water to boil. When the water starts boiling, reduce heat to simmer.

Once majority of water evaporates, you'll have steamed rice.

Best to you.

Bring double the amount of water as rice to a boil. Add the rice and make the flame as small as possible and cover the pot. Leave for 18 minutes. DO NOT OPEN until 18 minutes are up.

In a pressure cooker, use 1:2 proportion, of rice is to water, to cook for 2 whistles of the cooker.
Or else use equal qty of both and, cook without the weight on the pressure cooker for 5 mins, and then turn the gas off.
To cook in normal pan use 1:2 rice:water and cook for 10 mins to get steamed rice.
Hint: Add 1 tsp oil of 1tsp lemon juice before cooking to get non sticky rice.

I have a pressure cooker. I put the rice and water in per instructions. I then cook it for about 10 minutes (a pressure cooker is sealed). Then I let it sit (off of the burner). Open it up... fluff it with a fork/spoon. Add butter to your taste (if you want butter)
