i've had my septum pierced since october... i hope i can help...
personally, i don't think it matters if you have a big nose or not and you want a septum piercing. ask your friends what they think you'd look like with one. that's what i did.
it's one of the worst pains i've ever felt in my life. once the piercer got the needle through, i had to ask him to wait a minute to put the ring in cuz i had to gather myself up. just make sure to breathe no matter what, cuz apparently i held my breath as it was going through and it made me light-headed.
i changed the ring out a few hours later, cuz they only had one ring to pierce me with and it was big and ugly. but i would say to wait at least a week or so to change it so at least the hole isn't raw or bloody. and it stops hurting after a few weeks at the least.
you shouldn't have to worry about a retainer if they give you an open ring (a horseshoe shaped one, ya know?) cuz if it's opened wide enough you'll be able to flip it up right away. just practice that a little bit and you should be good to go.
i hope this helps you out in your decision. :)

It might not look stupid, but it could make your nose look bigger. Stick with smaller jewelry, but nothing TOO small. Even if you dont like it, just take it out.
Mine hurt no worse than an ear lobe piercing. As long as the piercing is done in the soft tissue area toward the end it should be fairly pain free. Mine took about 2-3ish months which is average healing time and its now 8g
Yes it can be pierced with a retainer. If your piercer does not have any, you can bring one, or do what I do and just use a CBR that is bent open so that it can be tucked inside the nostrils.
Good luck.

I got my septum pierced in october and I love it.
It won't look stupid and it hurts like hell but once it's through it stops hurting. The healing time isn't bad at all. Honestly. Yes they should be able to put a retainer in right away and it's really simple to just flip up.

i'm not sure in case you may get a dermal punch on a septum piercing via fact the piece of epidermis they actually pierce is extremely small. the only time i've got ever heard of everyone having a dermal punch is while my buddy who had had his septum pierced incorrect, in the process the cartilage, yet saved it besides, desperate he needed to stretch it. nevertheless needless to say you won't be able to try this by using cartilage so he had to have a dermal punch. i might advise only getting it pierced many times and stretching it up. no longer only does this advise you may stretch down lower back, yet I think of it might harm much less and heal lots greater advantageous at a smaller length. nevertheless, be careful stretching as i've got heard its between the main painful places to stretch.

I can't tell you whether it will look stupid or not, but prepare for some major eye-watering when it's done. Hurts like an s.o.b. They can't put a retainer in until it's heald because you need to be able to move it around to clean it, but I've had friends that just kind of flipped the bar up into their nose...

That is a terrible place for a girl. Especially with a nose that size.
