Yeah thats what I use and I've dropped several deer. Its the calibre i prefer to use although you can go down to .243 as well as I have taken a few deer with that too. but the .30-06 is good for deer and larger game as well. Its an alround good calibre

Definitely, with the right cartridge load, more than sufficient. As long as you practice enough to be proficient with your rifle, the venerable old veteran .30-06 is more than powerful enough for, not only deer hunting, but for ANY game animal on the American Continents, and most of the rest of the world, as well.
Some professional hunters consider it marginal for such critters as elephant, rhino, hippo, and Buffalo, but, in the right hands, this long time favorite has taken these, as well as the King of Beasts, lion, which rounds out the Safari "Big Five".

Hello,
In the U.S. the 30-30 and 30-06 are the two most popular rounds for hunting Deer. There are a LARGE variety of bullet weights/grains and designes. You can find them at any place like, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Fleet Farm, Cabelas, Gander Mt., Dicks, etc. They always go on sale ( if you'd like to save a few bucks).
This is only my opion: Thee above not my pick, I'd chose the 308Win. or 270Win.
I hope this was helpful and good luck. (77)

I live in Texas and have been hunting my whole life. A .30-.0six( sorry my #six key is broke) is more than sufficent for any kind of white tail or mule deer. It has excellent range, a wide configuration of bullet sizing, and the recoil is managable. Plus most sporting good retailers stock many varieties of rounds for that caliber.

That is the perfect caliber for all hunting...For deer you just want to use a lower grain bullet like 150 or even lower if you can find it.

oh yea, and then some.
I used to use a 30-30 myself, and it would drop them no problem.

Too much, really, but there's no problem with that if you don't mind burning all that powder.
