average age recomended 4 to 6 months. This allows time for natural development of the ear ie: muscle, blood vessels which helps strengthen them. Note, there is no guarantee even with cropped ears that they will stand. I have been breeding, raising and now rescuing for over 40 years.

There is no physical or medical reason to crop ears, it is a cosmetic surgery.
For small breeds, no older than 9 weeks, for large breeds, no older than 6 weeks of age. Ear cartilage is permanently set by 4 months of age, so after that would be insanely stupid. And painful!!

Check with your vet. You may have problems finding one that will do it, because there are many people who do not believe it having it done. But, you must also realize that many of these same people don't believe in fixing their dogs either. They think that is a waste of money and that it puts the dog through too much pain, etc.
Good luck!

Why crop them? My boxers have their ears-in tact. Cropping the ears is really just cosmetic and is done for your enjoyment-it serves no useful purpose to the dog. Save your money and save the dog the painful healing process.

between 8-12 weeks, if you want the ears to stand. if not, then don't bother cropping. it still means lots of taping to get them up correctly. been in danes 16 yrs.

If your dog isn't a show dog and isn't at risk for any medical issue, why bother? It's just for you. And I personally wouldn't put my dog at risk for a cosmetic surgery to satisfy my vanity. . .
So, my direct answer to your question is "Dogs are never old enough to have their ears cropped, unless the dog is a show dog and it's in their breed standards."

what type of dog is it? they have to be at least 3 mo old to have ears done. is the dog going to be showen in the breed ring? ask you vet wither he does crop ears or not. i like crop ears on all dogs that normally have them done. it is up to you if you have them crop.. i have seen some show dog being show with uncrop ears. i think they look better with them crop.

You what!!!! Why are you having that done, what is the point, the dogs just going to suffer. I dnt think any age is exceptable, dogs are living creatures not accesories or something to help you create a certain image. I dont think you should have a dog if your willing to let it suffer like that, how would you like it done to you, and if you dont even know the age you are asking for trouble. Just think about you dogs health and welfare before you do it, this could evn cause an infection. To be honest i dont even agree with it for shows. Its not right!!!!
