I doubt that once the Police open the package and see that it is nothing more than a sandwich, that it is thrown away. I believe that the rule of thumb is to keep durable items such as TVs;clothing; jewelry; computers; watches etc. for 6 months. Usually, stuff that is over 6 months is auctioned off by the Police Dept..
