I have been looking for a dog for months now. I just can't find any that interest me. I'm looking for a medium sized dog, that isn't OLD, but isn't a puppy.

Get a mutt- they need homes the most and are often the best pets.

Everyone has their favorites; it really depends on you. What kind of dog do you prefer? Do you have the time to groom a long haired dog, or is a short haired dog more your style? Are you athletic and want a dog to exercise with, or is the flipping the channels on the remote more your thing? Do you have the time to provide enough exercise for a large dog, or at least a large, fenced yard? If not, try a smaller (30 lb and under) dog. Are you looking for a dog to be your constantly requiring attention, or just a warm body snoozing in the chair next to you? Try this breed selector to see if you can't narrow it down a bit: http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselectorindex.do
You also might try searching for homeless dogs on www.petfinder.com. If you aren't specific on what kind of breed, maybe a mutt might be best for you. You can find an adult dog that isn't old, but is past it's puppy stages, in desperate need of a loving home.
If you really want a purebred, try looking at the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. They are considered medium sized dogs; they are just really short. My corgi is the most trainable dog I've ever had!

Hope this helps...

First, you need to reasearch dog breeds that fit into your lifestyle. Try looking at non-sporting dogs as that they are medium sized. Next look for a rescue program, you can help give a dog a new home and they will be more likely to have 1- 2 year old dogs( which I recomened). Keep an open mind, and be patient. These things take awhile.

I know your frustration. It took us almost 8 months to decide on a breed and another 5 months to find the right puppy. Have faith...you will find a perfect match.

Since you didn't state that you couldn't find the right breed, I'm assuming that you're not specific about that. My advice would be to visit your local shelter regularly. We dedicated Saturday mornings to our puppy search. We would visit our local shelter and then widen our search to include surrounding county shelters. Sadly enough, new animals are coming in daily to the shelters looking for homes and if you keep your search regular, you may find a dog that you could have missed.

Talk to the volunteers at the shelter about what you are looking for and leave your name and number. They see every dog that comes in and may call you about one you might have missed.

Keep up the search...you'll find your match!

Try looking on dogbreedinfo.com to see ALL kinds of different breeds. And also try looking on petfinder.com to look for young dogs. Dogs usually between 8 months and 1 and 1/2 years. When you look at all the dogs in your area, and read about them, you might just fall in love with one, and have to go visit it. I hope this helps. Good luck in finding a dog!!
(in my opinion pit bulls are the best breed of dog)

You are going to get a thousand different answers from a thousand different people. No one can really answer this question for you. You haven't told us anything about your work schedule, your financial situation, your lifestyle, your activity level, your home situation, your experience with animals, etc. Any answers you get will just be uneducated guesses from children telling you their favourite dog - dogs that will probably be a terrible match for you.

Check out your local rescue groups. If you don't have your heart set on a specific purebred dog, they have a ton of great dogs available. Mixed breed and purebred. http://www.petfinder.com has lists of general shelter and rescue dogs and http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm has links to rescue groups for essentially every purebred AKC dog out there. When rescuing dogs, if you are really pick about what you want, you often have to wait awhile to match. But, if you just want a lab mix, then chances are there are a dozen dogs at a local shelter to fit your needs. Go meet some dogs and see if they match with you. You might be surprised. : )

Good luck in your search! : )

If you are looking for a purebred.... dog shows are a good way to meet the breeds and make contacts to get one that may interest you. If it's a mix you are looking for visit local shelters. Lots of little faces there begging to go home with you!
Try: infodog.com

It depends on the kind of dog you want I have an english bulldog and they are couch potatoes so I don't have to walk her far since she has short legs and tires quickly. If you want a dog for long walks or runs then I would suggestion another type of dog

I have boxers, and I love boxers. But truthfully, one of the best dogs I ever had in my family was a mutt.

It depends on what you are looking for; what you expect out of a dog.

Good luck

Your ideal companion might not be a particular breed. Go to your local animal shelter. They have a lot to choose from and many of them fit right into your guidelines on what you are looking for.
