My boyfriend is now a marine... he left today for three months of basic training. As you all know they can't take anything with them so the only way we can talk for the next 13 weeks is writing back & forth... Will this kill our relationship? i know it's going to make it harder but do you think we can make it through??

It all depends on how you two really feel about one another. As a former AF Airman I will tell you that while in basic there is barely time to do anything except for what you're told to do, but at the same time the mind will wander to those people that we love the most. He'll think about you, but he may not have time to write as often as you would like. He'll need your love and support. Be there for him and make sure he knows that you love him. Marine basic is so much harder than the AF basic training. I know he will go through a lot more than I did. He'll need you.

If you make it through, you're good for anything else. Just be sure to write often and mention things HE would want to know, but maybe you aren't interested in. It'll make him feel more "at home". Like if he has favorite sports teams, include how they are doing, along with some upcoming events. Then later you can fill him in. Although it may seem trivial, that's what most by buddies wanted to know. Being away from someone you're dating for that long, you want to mention you miss them and love them, but they don't want to keep reading negative things. That help?

Congratulations to your boyfriend, and thank him for his service to our country.

It will not hurt your relationship unless you think it will. Writing is easy, and gives you the opportunity to THINK and properly express your feelings for him. He won't get a lot of time to write during the first few weeks, so don't worry if you don't get letters from him every day. You CAN make it through. It is only three months.

it will be hard at first, but as long as you guys love each other and are willing to work through it by continually communicating with each other by the means that are available and have the will power to make it work then it should make the relationship stronger...

It could do either. It depends on what aspects of your relationship feeds your love. If that is not harmed, neither will your relationship be.
