Do we have a contradiction or do we have two Gods to sort out?

Dear Uncle Thesis:
I've wore out every version & perversion.
Not to mention KJV is the seventh Bible.
No shade(darkness) in that God is light.
No shadow of turning with God either.
No law(Hebrews 10:1) with His Grace.

Gen 22:1 Some time later God TESTED Abraham.
Testing is not tempting.

God does not tempt us Satan does the tempting, but God has set a limit.
1 Cor 20:13 Not temptation has seized you except what is common to man. and God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

(Genesis 22:1) Now after these things it came about that the [true] God put Abraham to the test. Accordingly he said to him: “Abraham!” to which he said: “Here I am!”

(James 1:13) When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.

Centuries before giving the Law to Israel, Jehovah commanded Abraham to sacrifice Isaac on Mount Moriah. Thus God illustrated how he would sacrifice his only-begotten Son, Jesus. Isaac’s willing submission in this dramatic episode pictured Jesus’ obedience to his Father’s will in pouring out his lifeblood in sacrifice.—Genesis 22:1-3

God is not the cause of the numerous hardships that plague mankind. James 1:13

The Bible is full of contradictions. If you tried there would be some 15+ Gods to sort out. Supposedly, God changed between the Old Testament and the New but even at that there are lots of contradictions within the New Testament itself. A God wrathful enough to have created (or allowed the creation) of Hell and loving and forgiving too. Either he's a psycho, or has some serious problems with Multiple Personality Disorder.

Genesis 22:1, Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to Him "Abraham!" And he said here I am.

Genesis 22 is a test of obedience to God not a temptation to sin.

Context. Context. Context.

Abraham lived hundreds of years before the Ten Commandments were given to Moses and the Jewish people.

Abraham lived in a society where human sacrifice and child sacrifice was the normal thing to do.

God was just beginning to reveal himself to mankind and Abraham did not have the Bible or much of anything else to go on.

Abraham knew that his son was a gift from God. If God demanded that Abraham kill the son, then Abraham, although it probably broke his heart, would do it.

Under the same circumstances (context) would we be able to follow God's will?

Under the much easier circumstances that we live in today, can we follow God's will as Jesus revealed it to us?

With the Ten Commandments, the Prophets, and especially Jesus Christ as part of our current circumstances (context), God would not put us to this test.

But we do have similar issues to tackle, like abortion where we kill our children who are miraculous gifts from God just like Isaac was to Abraham.

In abortion we sacrifice our children to the gods of lust, convenience, economy, and selfishness.

With love in Christ.

God tempts no Man, If you read the Aramaic translation it says God tested Abraham & you also read James 1:13 God can not be tempted with evil, So that shows that God tempts no man WITH EVIL

God was testing the faith of Abraham and Abraham knew that this was not right to offer his son but because of that period of time in the old testament God spoke to Abraham in those days he knew the voice of God and believed that if God wanted him to sacrifice isaac that he was going to raise him from the dead. The believer today has the scriptures and this was for a specific symbol of that day and time to Abraham and was to be a symbol of faith of offer his son in which God would not allow but would be fulfilled the the sacrifice of the son of god Jesus.

Dear Mr. Godshew:
Your question reveals the advantage of using many translations.
No doubt you limit yourself to the KJV.
Please do not do that.
Use it, but use others as well.
Most other versions use the word 'test'.
There is a shade of difference.
Tempt means you hope they fail.
Test means ....let's see what happens.
One can even be hoping the individual passes the test successfully.

LOL, well, I am a little late with my response, you already have several who have pointed out the differences in words used..........i.e., tested and tempted............but you already knew that didn't you?

Yep, I suspect you know there is no contradiction and that there is only one God.........whether you accept or disown Him is your choice. It is my prayer you will come to accept Him and all the Love He has for you. Go in peace.

God brings testing not temptation. Often these are taking place in the same event. Satan and sin are tempting to get one to fall into sin and God is testing to prove ones faith in Him. Temptation comes from one who wants you to fail. Testing comes from one who wants you to succeed.
