my brother is getting married in texas and southwest has cheap one way tickets. im wondering if it is worth it to just wait until the promotions during that time. he is getting married in may.

For an event like that, I would just buy the ticket now to make sure. Especially on Southwest, it can't hurt to buy now because you can keep the value of the ticket. If fares go down, you can switch to the lower fare.

Most of the promotions that Southwest run are for round-trip tickets - not one-way.
You most likely will not see a better price on the Southwest website than you see right now. However, Southwest is not always the cheapest, depending on where you are flying from, and were in Texas you are going.
