Fluids!!! Always give fluids. Eating is not important for a few days, but fluids are very important in a child. Dehydration is achieved when an adult looses 10% of his fluid volume which can take about 3 days. Children are dehydrated with only a 5% loss, and that can happen even in a day. Fever increases this time factor seriously. We loose fluids as urine of course, and sweat is almost an equal loss of fluid for a body, but almost every medical tyro does not appreciate that breathing is a source of water loss. Again usually as much as urine and sweating in a normal situation. However in the course of a fever that insensible water loss by breathing can be tripled with fevers of 101 in adults, and 103 to 105 in children. Always give fluids. Jello is a wonderful fluid source for sick children and can be easily obtained already made in tubs from your grocery store. De-fizzed clear soda such as 7 UP and then the ice pops are also an easily administered treat high in water content, and of course the more expensive Pediolyte is a consideration. Too much sugar can cause diarrhea and more water loss, so go easy on sugared fluids. Good luck!

Poor thing. Don't worry so much about the food. Her appetite will come back when she feels better. Make sure she has plenty to drink however. And if she will, let her drink milkshakes or malts. This will feel good on her throat and give her some calories to help her get her strength back.

Don't force her to eat,it's natural she lost her appetite with the cold, even for an adult, forcing a kid to eat will lead them to stressful eating time and it's not good for them or the parent.Be patient, she will be eating better in no time.Good Luck!

I would give your child water, clear fluids, like clear broths, or chicken soup, and no milk for now, because milk will produce more mucus.

I buy my kids stuff like jello, soups, and even popsicles. She is okay as long as she doesn't get dehydrated. Those things help.
