Barbaro is only alive for money. Any other horse would have been put down. The owners know that they will make money with his sperm. I had a horse at the New Bolton Center, and it cost me 5K. That was minor, Barbaro is major. I don't even want to guess how much - over 1/2 mil? But that's the horse world. To answer you're question, Barbaro has been kept alive to make expensive and hopefully, successful, babies.

Barbaro's racing career--everyone is right to note that he will have a stud career if things go right--was pretty spectuacular, undefeated, with a dominating win over what looked like a competitive Derby field. That, coupled with his surviving a nasty breakdown in the Preakness, struck a chord with fans. He is a great champion, and fans follow such athletes even after their playing days are done. You might as well ask why did baseball fans follow Ted Williams not only after he was dead, but the whole saga regarding the disposition of his remains as well.

Want a good idea of just how much support Barbaro has, and I mean WORLDWIDE SUPPORT?

Go to http://www.gratefulness.org. At last look about 15 minutes ago he had OVER 7,000 candles lit for him from 54 (yes 54!) countries all around the world.

And just to be contrary... I would much rather read about or watch ANYTHING Barbaro ,than " W" or Cheney.

Because he signifies hope for other people and their horses who may one day find themselves in his situation. 99.9% of horses with Barbaro's injuries don't even make it off the race track alive. At least his owners are willing to try and save his life. If you don't like the headline then skip the story!

Whatever Troll...

He is of valuable bloodlines, he won the KY Derby and he is still in good health dispite the issues with his feet (which would happen to ANY horse put in that situation).

His career has not BEGUN yet... he has at least 10 to 15 years of stud service ahead of him!

Plus he was a favorite when he won the Derby and people WANT TO keep track of him - he's a star! News and the Media ONLY put in the headlines what people want to hear and it sells newspapers. So that's why in a nutshell.

Barbaro's carreer as a race horse might be over but he is still looking to be the most sought after stud horse. The money they can get for the stud fee will be nothing compared to the price of his off-spring. He is such a beautiful horse and he really has over come the odds of beating such an injury. I hope that he comes through it!

Jo and John seem to get it..........................

Because so many people are fascinated with the horse that beat the odds. How many horses could survive those injuries? If you're an experienced horse person, you'd know the chances would be VERY slim.

Because Barbaro won the Kentucky Derby. And because the story is so "Heart-Warming". Ewww....I'm begining to see what you mean.
