I'm just trying to make a simple recipe.Is it alright if I use butter in replace of crisco?

For the absolute best flavor, use bacon grease.

For most cookies butter will work but they'll spread more. If your recipe calls for Crisco AND about a tablespoon of water, eliminate the water.

Crisco will make a higher cookie and will generally be more crisp.

Best substitute for Crisco =>> Lard
As it imparts minimal taste, and makes a light, flakey baked good.
Both great for pie crusts, biscuits, etc.

Also acceptable -- but imparting some taste:
Butter
Margarine
Great for cookies, cakes, etc.

It is best to use the latter 2 in their unsalted variety, however, if all you have is the salted variety, it will also work -- just slightly decrease salt in the recipe.

depends upon the recipe- sometimes lard is a better substitute than butter

Generally I'd say yes but it really depends on what you are cooking.
