I don't think you can. If you go into a rapid-weight loss, fasting sort of mode, all you'll do is reprogram your body to store every calorie you take in. Then when you start eating normally, even reasonable portions, you'll end up gaining twice what you may have lost.
Since you mention 40 days, I'm assuming there is some event or some person you'll be seeing that you want to look especially nice for. Here's what I would suggest: Go ahead and get on a sensible eating plan (don't think of it as a temporary diet, but a permanent lifestyle change). Eat reasonable portions of whole grains, organic fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats - eliminate all artificial additives - including margarine - in your food.
Artificial sweetners are a HUGE no-no. They cause a variety of health problems, and can actually increase your appetite and cause you to gain weight. Drink lots of water, eliminate sweet teas, sodas, etc. Go for brisk walks EVERY SINGLE DAY. You will begin to lose weight and start feeling and looking better even before the 40 days are up. This will definitely help your confidence level, even if there isn't that much change on the scale initially.
But don't stop there! Go for a complete makeover! Consult with a professional hair stylist and see which cuts and color would work best for you. Go to the counter at your department store and schedule a makeover. Get your nails done. Consult a personal shopper or professional sales clerk in a reputable store to find out which styles and cuts of fabric would be most complimentary on you. If your goal is to look and feel slimmer while you're getting there, tell them so! That way you will benefit the most from their expertise.
You'll feel so much better about yourself and have so much more confidence that you will look lighter, whether you actually are or not!
Good luck -

Please do not try to loose 65 pounds in 40 days !! That is very unhealthy and will cause serious side effects. You need to approach this logically. You need to approach this healthy !!
The most you should loose per week is 2-4 pounds. Anything more than that will be a shock to your system. Infact, most doctors and health dieticians recommend 2 pounds per week.
Let me ask you this. Are you trying to loose 65 pounds in 40 days because you feel you want to loose weight to be healthy? Or, are you doing it for someone else, to look good or to help boost your self assurance? If you are wanting to loose weight to be healthy ( which, in my opinion should be the only reason ) then you need to set out on a healthy approach !
Eat lots of vegtables and healthy fruit. Avoid fatty and greasy foods. Exercise ( walking is the best !! ) and try to stay active. Cut out late night snacking and avoid sugery , bakery items.

Maybe in 3-4 months if you eat healthy. Buy the Biggest Loser cookbook. Work out for 1-2 hours a day 5-6 days a week and you will lose weight.
Good Luck

You can't lose all of it in 40 days, but you could probably lose 15 by seriously reducing calories and increasing activity. Trust me when I say that 15 will make a big difference in your appearance.
