The virus can lie dormant within your body for years from birth or from contact with another. Then once you come upon a stressful time or weakened immune system, it can surface.

When you think of having this infection you usually assume that you were recently exposed to the germ that has caused your problem. With cold sores this is not the case. Cold sores are not a sign of a recently acquired herpes simplex infection but instead a reactivation of herpes virus particles already living in your body. Cold sores occur when latent herpes simplex virus particles, which have been lying dormant ("asleep"), become reactivated.

Cold sore can happen to anyone at any time when the herpes virus decides to flare up . You have obviously been exposed to the herpes virus at some time in your life and now have a cold sore. Do not kiss anyone on the lips, do not share drinking cups or eating utensils as they are contagious. Also be sure to wash your hands thoroughly anytime you have them near you mouth or face.

Wow, I am so sorry you are finding our you have HSV on an internet board. But be happy that you know so you can take the proper precautions for your sake. You would be amazed at the stats on HSV 1 &2 and how many ppl have it and don't know it. HSV can be transmitted at anytime without even knowing you have it or even knowing you are about to get an outbreak. You can have an outbreak and never have another one, that is how so many ppl say they don't have it anymore. and it is very much contagious. Keep your immune system up and take care of yourself that will ward off the breakouts.

It's normal to get a flu or a sore throat infection once or two times each year.
It's good because of what so called reidentification of influenza virus by the immunity system... If you get a flu each year or six months it will be strongly less severe than if you get it each 5 or ten years.

It is indeed the herpes virus. There are lots of ointments out there to make them go away but it is in your blood forever now I am afraid. Dating anyone new lately? I would blame him!
