because your body is calling for extra oxygen.. when in a still state for long periods. your breathing gets shallow.. to stay more alert. breath in deeper and you wont yawn

When we get tired we don't take in as much oxygen when we breath. Yawning is our bodies way of demanding more oxygen when we breath. It's another reason why we sometimes yawn even when we don't feel tired.

there was a study conducted about a year ago on that subject. yawning is usually caused by boredom or being tired. when you see someone yawn, if you yawn, it's neurological, you're just going by what someone else has done unless you really are bored or tired.

I'm sorry to say scientists only have theories for why we yawn and there is no exact reason.

We yawn because our body wants more oyxgen, it is catching.
