Has anyone besides me noticed that yahoo messenger has been turned into just another dating site.. I thought it was intended for family and friends to be able to keep in contact with eachother, Lately yahoo has made it so easy for users to search and contact male or females at will, I personally am going to delete it for just these reasons my wife must get atleast 5 hits a day from men she doesnt even know, Who have merely searched 360 or messenger for a certain criteria.. If you are looking for love go to one of the many dating sites that are already available out there

I hadn't noticed this; I use Messenger only for very narrow, specific uses, i.e. to communicate with my husband when he is in another location. I sign on as invisible and turn off the option for IM on Yahoo Answers. I figure he's the only one that I'm going to give the option of being able to contact me that quickly. Chatting with friends on IM seems to me to be a real time-waster, and I prefer the slightly more thoughtful time-waster of Yahoo! Answers, where I'm somewhat removed from direct personal interaction and can exchange ideas more effectively in a forum atmosphere. But then again, I have been called nonhuman before, so this probably doesn't apply to many of you out there.

Yahoo messenger has always done that. Yahoo messenger was designed to allow PEOPLE to contact PEOPLE. Whether people use that for dating or not is how they use it. The most common way to find someone is to go to members.yahoo.com. That allows you to view a number of profiles of yahoo members. There is a little box that you can uncheck that will remove that person's profile from the directory, meaning people cannot find you, or your wife. Hope this helps.

You know you can change the settings so that only people can search you by very specific things. I never get any requests from strangers, only people I know. Just go in and change your privacy settings.
