Coffee???? How in the world do I make a good pot of coffee??

I have given up all hope. If I'm not at work and the ground coffee doesn't come in prepackaged servings and I don't know exactly how much water to add to the machine....I can never make a good pot of coffee.
My mom gave me a 12 cup coffee pot for Christmas. Why I'm not sure because I live alone, but anyway. I only want to make enough coffee for 1 serving. How do i do this?
I have Folgers Classic Roast in Medium (I started out cheap since I didn't trust myself.) The side of the container says "1 serving (6 fl. oz.) / 1 tablespoon of coffee." Yeah....didn't work. I poured in 6 oz of cold water and 1 tablespoon of coffee.....and it sucked.
Help me please. How do I make one good single serving of coffee? What are the measurements? (I like strong coffee, not watered down.)

Well it would help if you told us why it sucked. Was it too strong or too weak. Then obviously you adjust either the amount of coffee used or water used, depending on whether you would have preferred it stronger or weaker. Don't worry, you'll figure it out. As for me, I LOVE instant coffee, love to have my water boiling. You may want to try instant, there are some great kinds out there and it may be easier for you!

You mentioned you have a coffee pot, I have a drip type coffee maker that to me makes the best coffee unless I use my espresso machine sometimes for special coffee drinks.

Whichever way you make it you need good water and the correct coffee amounts.

Since you use the coffee pot that perks and bubbles to the top then it's best to follow the manufacturers directions on the coffee bag.

Here is how I measure for the drip coffee maker
You place a paper coffee filter in the top container and place 1/4 cup ground coffee into the filter.

Then place 1 cup water 8 ounces in the water holder that pumps over the filter and into the coffee carafe.

This makes 3/4 cups of coffee or 6 ounces.

If this is too strong cut back a little on the coffee.
Each person has their own preference to the strength.
If you drink it with cream then the stronger is better before diluting with the cream.

I know your Mom gave you the coffee pot save it for company and you can buy a drip coffee maker very cheap and it's so much better because the coffee is heated through one time and not overworked buy boiling in the other type.

In my 12 cup coffee pot, I put two slightly less than level scoops from a 1/8 cup spoon (30 ml) (this is part of any measuring spoon set) into slightly more than the 4 cup level of water on the coffee pot itself. I use Tim Horton's Coffee (which is very popular in Canada) and my homemade cups taste as good as the real thing at the coffee shop. This amount of coffee makes for slightly more than one and a half good cups of coffee for one person or two small cups for two. Folgers or any of the quality brands should taste almost as good. personally, i use about 1/8 cup (2 tablespoons) for a half pot of coffee... then i heat up the cold stuff from the day before in the microwave the next day

if you are really having problems, get a smaller pot

Start off with 12 cups of water and FILL the coffee filter with
Dark Roast coffee....This is how I always make my coffee...
Work backwards from there...
