i have a two week old puppy but due to the fact that his mother was a rescue quite old and was not well taken care her milk has become almost non existent,i am trying to supplemental bottle feed the puppy but he hates the taste of his store bought formula, who can blame him,i tasted it and it is NASTY!! does anyone out there have a tastier recipe, maybe a little closer to mother's milk that he would take to and thrive well on,he is very undersized and puny,i am just trying desperately to get him to survive until he can eat on his own

What store bought formula are you using?? The best milk replacement formula I have ever found is "Just Born" (Farnum). The pup may be refusing the bottle not the formula. At two weeks of age you may want to try letting him nurse off a syringe.... often works much better than those puppy bottles. Another thought is to try a Preemie (human) nipple on a small (human) bottle. Make sure the formula is warm (not hot!). You might also try a gruel made of baby food.... chicken (in a jar) & boxed rice cereal mixed with the formula. Entice the pup to lick the gruel off your finger. Again, make sure it's warm. You should get the pup wormed for roundworms NOW. Make sure he is kept warm. Pups cannot digest their food when chilled. Make sure and give fluids as well. Pedialyte (plain) for a water replacement is good. This can be found at your local CVS.

Pet stores and feed stores carry an actual milk replacer for a bit of a steep price. Otherwise, goats milk, which is sold at the grocery store by the condensed milk in cans, is also good. It's not cheap but cheaper. Bottle feeding will be accepted and if you pull back a bit every few seconds to simulate the suction of grasping a nipple and the pup having to work for the milk and hold your hand up so they can press with their front feet like they do to squeeze out the milk. Have fun mothering! They'll love you for it!

Get some non-fat dry milk and mix it up. You'll have to add a small amount of whole milk to the mix because puppies do need some fat, but not as much that's in whole milk by itself. To much fat will cause diarrhea which will lead to other problems like dehydration. If you feed the pup this mixture about every 2 hours she should be fine.
Just make sure that she stays warm at that age.

Two weeks old? It's probably hard for him to take a bottle because he is so young.
You need to tube feed him or he may die. This involves using a feeding tube & syringe. You can find instructions on the internet.
It's quick & easy & will save your puppy's life.
I always use Esbilac puppy milk replacer as it is the proper balance of nutrients for the puppy.
I have saved many a Collie puppy this way - who have later turned into healthy, happy, big Collie champions!

10 oz. evaporated milk (whole fat or part skim -- do not use all skim) or goat's milk
3 oz. sterilized water (baby water or boiled water) -- delete if using goat's milk
1 egg yolk (raw)
2T regular mayonnaise (optional)
1 cup whole fat yogurt (whole fat or part skim -- avoid all skim)

Place all ingredients in a blender and mix (or use a wire whisk) till well blended. Use all formula within 7 days.

Warm formula to puppy body temperature before feeding. Always discard formula leftover at a feeding. This formula is thick and so is best administered by stomach tube. If using a bottle, you may need to enlarge the hole slightly. It provides 11 calories per cc.

You should contact a vet. All these people who are telling you to give the pup milk are wrong, dogs cannot digest it well, especially a pup, its hard on their digestive tract. Maybe try to see if you can find another brand of puppy formula that he might like. good luck i hope he makes it

you need to get goats milk. then use the baby bottle and feed about every two to three hours. let the mother take care of the puppy other than feeding it. it will help the puppy a lot with its growth.
