Dodge rams are probably the worst trucks on the road. I am an automotive tech and I work on them more than any other vehicle. If you are smart, you will stay away from them.

It depends on what you plan to use the truck for. If you want to use the truck as a daily driver and aren't a construction worker or a builder, then the Ram might not be such a great idea. The gas mileage for the V-8 and V-10 are horrible, especially compared with the new Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, and Ford F-150. Also, the crew cab model has the smallest rear seat of any fullsize truck, about the same size as the crew cab Dodge Dakota, which is a smaller truck. In addition to this, the Ram's reliability is very poor (according to Consumer Reports only the Nissan Titan is worse in the fullsize truck area).
However, if you plan to use the truck for work and hauling loads such as wood, furniture, or gravel, then the Ram may be for you. Avoid the V-8 and V-10 engines, and instead go for the Cummins diesel. It's loud and doesn't offer stellar performance, but it has excellent torque for hauling and towing and is the only Ram engine that has been reliable. Also, the off-road versions of the Ram such as the Power Wagon and TRX4 are rated better at off-roading than the comparable Chevrolet Silverado Z-71 and Ford F-150 FX4.
Pricewise, the Dodge Rams are slightly more than comparable Chevrolet Silverados and Ford F-150s, but about the same as a GMC Sierra. Diesels in all of these are always going to be more than gasoline-powered ones, but well worth it if you plan to use the truck like a truck should be used.
Bottom line - If you can find a Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel for a reasonable price, go for it. If not, I'd say look at the Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150. Both are cheaper, and even the gasoline-powered ones are reliable.
If you want a fullsize truck for a daily driver and don't do a lot of heavy hauling and towing, look at the Toyota Tundra or the older T100. They're the smallest in this category, get the best gas mileage, are the most reliable, and have the best on-road manners. They doesn't have nearly the ability of the other trucks, but you won't need that to get groceries and take the kids to soccer.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

every auto makers has their down fall. like CM has the great piston knock problem and ford prices their vehicles out of existence. whatever truck you get I would get a diesel. you get more tourqe and power and gas mileage over any gas engine on the market. plus you dont have to change spark plugs and wires as they dont have them lol.
funny thing is I see more older rams on the road than ford or chevy. so dodge must of done something right over the other 2.

oh frick if i dodnt have to drive one for work i wouldnt touch one with a ten foot pole. i drive a ram 2500 with a 360 in it with 4.10 rear end. it has to be the most gutless pos i have ever driven i couldnt pass doin 60 with it with a generator and compressor in the back. plus if i'm lucky i get 8 miles to the gallon on the highway( my 79 chev halfton did better b4 it was tuned up). as for price they go for a little less than a chevy but they hold some of their value not quite as well as a gm though if anything buy a gmc duramax diesel it'll do anything u want it to tow haul or bog plus decent fuel mileage

Thats a pretty openended question, the problem is its going to depend on who you ask and when. I have had my 99 Ram since new and have had minor issues with it, things that go bad on any car like ball joints, U-joints, water pump, plenum gasket...failures of items such as this are common on all makes and models. Look here http://www.edmunds.com/used/index.html?tid=edmunds.u.zipentry.used..1.* and do some research on the net for yourself, here is another site that has listings of all common problems associated with the dodge ram pick -up http://dodgeram.info/
Good luck

relies upon the way it is been taken care of. this is a huge form of miles for any automobile yet as long as a results of fact the motor has had widely used oil variations it is going to nonetheless final yet another 60,000+ miles straight forward. The transmission isn't services to failure on that automobile yet nonetheless if it is been used for towing, off roading or lots of city driving it ought to very nicely be wiped out. maximum suitable thank you to get a hallmark of this is to ascertain the tranny fluid, despite if it continues to be effective and pink and scents usual then that's probable nonetheless healthful, despite if that's brown and burnt smelling then the tranny probable is beginning as much as slide and construct warmth as a results of wiped out grasp paks and or torque converter. additionally verify the coolant and engine oil and notice in the event that they're effective and clean, this is a hallmark of the way it is been regarded after and maintained. There are different concerns besides regardless of the undeniable fact that, at that mileage issues like, U-joints, tie rods, ball joints, wheel bearings, starter, alternator, water pump, capability guidance and AC compressor will start to positioned on out. you are able to notice if any of those look like they have been replaced at the instant or ask for receipts. issues like that should extremely nickel and dime you to loss of life on a automobile that age and miles. sturdy good fortune!

Yes i love those trucks.....even 2004 is good. Dont have to go all up to 2007 models. Hemi is the way to go, but just letting you know as good as it runs, as good as it feels and daymn sure sounds it dont go faster then 110. We tried, but at 110 its pretty steady and it was flying. :)
