Should I go to the ER, or wait a week to see my dentist, because he is on vacation.
Are there any treatments I can do at home to alliviate the pain, until I can go get some attention?

You don't get lockjaw from wisdom teeth. Lockjaw is caused by a bacterial infection.

You should see a dentist, all the ER will do is tell you to see a dentist and maybe if you are lucky give you something for pain.

You can try Ora-Jel, warm salt water rinses, and Tylenol for pain until your dentist can see you.

Good luck!

Your dentist may be on vacation, but his outgoing message will include the contact information of an emergency dental clinic. Go there if you feel that you must, but just ice the area and use some aspirin or tylenol for the discomfort. Don't go any stronger than ibuprofen (that's Advil or Motrin). You don't need anything more than that. And anyone prescribing anything more than that is an idiot. You just need to have the sensations reduced to the level that allows you to function. You and everyone for that matter, can function without being pain free. I do it 24/7, as does every chronic pain patient.

And this is not lockjaw. Lockjaw is a common term for a tetanus infection. It's the result of breaking the skin with a rusty metal object, and it can kill.

I had Lockjaw all through Christmas, it's gone now... It only lasted about 2 weeks - if yours lasts longer than that - ide suggest seeing a doctor and a dentist.

Ouch! :)

Apparently, Wisdom Teeth can cause lockjaw, you maaaay (thats a big big may) need your jaw re-aligning as the Wisdom tooth may have pushed it verrrrrrry slightly out of position.

lock jaw is caused from a very bad infection and not having your tetanus shot. it has to do with your muscles and being in constant contractions. one way to help is to make a rice bag( put uncooked rice in a small cloth bag) heat it up in the microwave and put it on the spot that is causing you pain. do not make it to hot. hope this helps
