Puppies need special food with extra vitamins and minerals. If Science Diet is a food for overweight dogs, absolutely not. It will deprive the puppy of badly needed extras.
If Science Diet is simply a brand name, and they have a special puppy mix - probably ok. But whether you mix it yourself - which is what I used to do - or you buy a commercial product, puppies need extras in their food well past their sixth month.

It's not the best food, and it's not the worst food. There's a lot of ingredients in it that compare to some of the lower priced food; personally I think it's overpriced for what you get. So is Eukanuba and Iams. Science Diet is nutritionally complete according to government standards, so if you aren't real picky about what goes into your dog's food, and your dog is doing well on it, then you might want to stick with it. However, Dog Chow and Puppy Chow have essentially the same ingredients at a price of $10 a bag less than the Science Diet.
Some not too overpriced dog foods for you to consider (that are better than Science Diet) might be Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul dog food, Nutro Natural Choice, Royal Canin (some formulations), and I've heard that some of the Diamond brands are pretty good, yet inexpensive.
Hope this helps...

Science Diet is full of corn, soy, and other fillers that are really not good for your puppy. What I use for my puppies is either Wellness or Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul. Out of those two, I prefer the Chicken Soup. The price is comparable to the Science Diet, but the ingredients are all human grade, and there are no fillers. Dogs do not digest fillers, so therefore, if you feed them food without any, they eat less, and poop less. Good luck to you!

Vets tell you that Science Diet is good for dogs because the company gives a lot of money to vets. Yeah, it can be good for some dogs, but it's not great for most of them.
One of the best dry foods out there is Innova Evo. It is more expensive, but it has more quality ingredients and less fillers, therefore your dog will eat less of it in order to be full, and will also produce less waste.
Canidae, Eagle Pack, Solid Gold, and Blue Buffalo are also good dog foods. Again, slightly more expensive than the much-advertised Science Diet and Iams/Eukanuba (one of the worst dog foods), but they have better ingredients and are better for your dog.

well the commercials all say to buy it especially for the dogs age. But yes I do think that science diet is good for puppies as long as you buy the puppy science diet. like if your puppy is gaining excess weight for NO reason, science diet LIGHT will help with that problem! Keep an eye on it! =)

your vet will tell you that science diet is one of the best foods to put your dog on, my dogs do very well on it and their fur and skin is just awsome when they get it. i have never heard any bad things about science diet. if you can afford it keep him on it.

I suggest natural food. I give my dogs "Natural Choice" it's really good for them and doesn't contain things they don't need.
