the cabinets are solid wood....i tried to refinish them but the people had sealed them with something that WILL NOT come off. I painted them and now want a new look without having to buy new ones. I have already tried new hardware---they need more than that.

I would use a malamine paint for these cabinets,, nice glossy finish and easy to wipe clean,,but what ever you do make sure you prime these cabinets first,,so the paint will stick and also cover up what ever is already there,,made the mistake of not priming first and what a mess, could see all scratch marks from your finger nails when opening the doors,,remember PRIME first ...good luck

I like painting cabinets in place meaning just remove the handle and that's it. Scuff them up with 150 gritt sandpaper and paint with 100% acrylic. Remember you can put water based paint over oil but not wise to put oil over water based without priming, there's always a chance the oil could pull your water based coat off, good luck, gonna do my sons cabinets and appliance's this week.
