I am being serious and I want serious answers. I just saw an answer that stated the bible had been proven to be the truth. How can you honestly say it has been proven? I understand about having faith and all...but honestly think about it...what is the real proof that everything that happened in the bible is real? And I would like answers without bible verses please. Give me your thoughts. And I would really not like to hear answers about having faith in the truth. If you are one that says the bible has been proven then show me real proof. Thanks!

I know about the archaeological finds of cities and such. Yes those cities existed and maybe some of the people existed. I mean the whole idea behind the bible. How can you prove that is real?

Gary- I am continuously amazed by the planet and the universe. It is a great wonder...but that does not prove that god exists. And I once lived my life as a christian. And I STILL questioned the bible even then.

While historians have found some archaeological sites mentioned in the Bible that does not prove that an event mentioned in the Bible ever happened. And many well respected Biblical scholars entertain the idea that even Moses was a matter of myth. As for the NT scholars admit that we do not have any of the original books. We only have copies, of the copies of the copies. And scholars of every faith estimate that there are somewhere between 100,000 and 300,000 errors in the NT. There is not one first hand account of Jesus' life let alone any evidence of any miracles. Religion is a matter of faith. Historians only have the NT to judge the veracity of the life of Christ, and on that basis they conclude that Jesus probably existed. They can't say anymore other than that because there is no corroborating evidence of anything else. That's about it. There will always be that fringe sector that makes outrageous claims that have no basis in reality let alone recorded history. There is nothing rational about fanaticism. My hypothesis is that it is rooted in deep seated desperation of some sort,

There is a book titled "The Bible Unearthed". It was written by a pair of archaeologists who went out and dug around for physical evidence of many of the Biblical claims...such as a mass-migration from Egypt to Canaan or a wall around Jericho. The results are in the book. Summary: Nothing was found to confirm the Biblical tales. People who claim that the Bible has been "proven" are blowing smoke.

Edit: A lot of the places mentioned in the Odyessey really existed too. Should we believe that the Odyessey was literal history as well? New York and the Empire State Building really exist, so King Kong must be a real story too! The writers of the Bible did what many cultures did: Set their mythical stories in real places. Their mere existence means nothing.

The Bible's accuracy and reliability have been proved and verified over and over again by archaeological finds produced by both believing and no believing scholars and scientists. This included verification for numerous customs, places, names, and events mentioned in the Bible.
One among many examples is the fact that for many years the existence of the Hittites (a powerful people who lived during the time of Abraham) was questioned because no archaeological digs had uncovered anything about them. Critics claimed the Hittites were pure myth. But today the critics are silenced. Abundant archaeological evidence for the existence of the Hittites during the time of Abraham has been uncovered.
Bible scholar Donald J. Wiseman notes, "The geography of Bible lands and visible remains of antiquity were gradually recorded until today more than 23,000 sites within this region and dating to Old Testament times, in their broadest sense, have been located." Nelson Glueck, a specialist in ancient literature, did an exhaustive study and concluded: "It can be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverter a biblical reference." Well-known scholar William F. Albright, following a comprehensive studies, wrote: "Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition of the value of the Bible as a source of History."

There are more than 24,000 partial and complete manuscript copies of the New Testament. These manuscript copies are very ancient and they are available for inspection NOW. there are also some 86,000 quotations from the early church fathers and several thousand lectionaries (church-service books containing Scripture quotations used in the early centuries of Christianity). In fact, there are enough quotations from the early church fathers that even if we did not have a single copy of the Bible, scholars could still reconstruct all but 11 verses of the entire New Testament from material written within 150 to 200 years from the time of Christ. Bottom line: The New Testament has an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting its reliability.

Well the funny thing is for centuries people have been trying to disprove the Bible on philosophical evidence as well as archeological evidence and it never amounts to much. Everytime a philosopher invents an objection to it, it is either already answered by the Bible or theologians. Everytime a historian tries to prove something didnt happen in the Bible or a city didnt exist, they find proof in archeology! For the longest time, they said that the city of Jericho never existed, then they found it! Not only did they find its existence, but they also discovered that the wall had fallen the WRONG WAY proving what the Bible said about the fall of that city!

God has given us the truth so that we may know it and follow it.

I think this is a reference to Jesus resurection.
The resurection of "The Christ ," which is the message, proves the prophecy that life goes on. Life continues and death is like a seed that once it is planted changes form and grows into something much greater than the seed itself.

Again, the life which is in us is light-energy which cannot be done away with. It can change form but cannot be destroyed.

The Bible is written in an Art Form. The setting for these stories is History though it is not about History. This Art Form symbolically shows pictures of things like Law [or how things work together and remain stable]. Consider for instance the law of gravity. These writtings also give the ordinances of that Law, and show examples of how these things work and come together.

The candlestick on the alter is an important symbol. To see this object for its meaning one needs to recognise the form. It is like an infloresence, which shows how a plant will bloom: and is a corymb or the type that will bloom from the outside in.
The description of its making is very important to comprehending the order in which the world is divided and how truth will be revealed.
Jesus may have used this lamp in describing the Beatitudes, meaning the beautiful attitudes, which allow one to see clearly the concepts revealed here.
This lamp is an oil lamp.
The seven points of light may be the fire that tests the concepts of those who try them in the fire. It is said that Christ Jesus testament are pure words tried in the fire seven times and though he was put to death he arose again and continues life.

It's been proven in their minds. Not in mine. The only proof they have is a book in their hands. Doesn't it seem weak that a religion is based on the written word? Shouldn't God prove his existence to his followers? We're not talking about whether Abraham Lincoln existed. We're talking about whether God exists. With his 'power' it shouldn't take much effort for him to prove that he exists and be a constant companion to anyone who follows him. The written word can be faked. The face and voice of God can't. Prove you exist, God, and we'll all believe in you.

The Bible has been "proven" because of many archaeological finds that have been places and people existed around the same time spoken of in the stories.
It's like saying Spiderman has been proven because New York is a real place.

Notice none of the Christians cite sources for their "proof" or "archealogical evidence".

I talk to Saddam Hussein and he visited me in a dream/vision. He told me to tell Y! Answers that there is no God, and Jesus, if he existed, has been dead for 2000 years.

There is equal evidence to support my claim about Saddam as there is to support anyone;s claim about "talking to God" or "God putting truth" in someone's heart.

I belive it hasn't been proven. But I DO belive that all religions are right to a certain degree. The ark, yes it has been found but dinosours aren't in the Bible but they are included in some religions. When Science and Religion are mixed, it can make sence but cause tons of conflict. Most people that are strong about their religion lie or creat their own phylisoify to attempt being correct.

Because they want everyone to believe in thier religion. So they resort to saying its the absolute truth when it is obviously not.

Oh and a bible thumper is still a christian, like it or not.
