It probably goes back to the days when Tyrannosaurus Rex munched on the little herbivores. Based solely on dental configuration, humans were meant to be omnivores, not herbivores. So, like bears look down on bunnies, meat-eaters look down on veggies.

I thought this is a very good question haven't really give much thought about it... Generally I think meat eaters or carnivorous are higher in order on our food chain and they're naturally bigger in size and more intimidating. Humans are more afraid of a tiger than cow despite of it's size difference and understanding others eating habits do makes us see fear or inferior in another. Yes, it's a choice of one chose to eat but it's not our choice to feel that way. It's the same reason why we give elderly people more respect than a younger ones, it's never their choice but sense tell us that's how the cookie would crumbles.

I had a BBQ, some time back, and went out of my way to provide plenty of vegetarian feasting. I had even cleaned the grill between cooking the meat and the vegetables. Every one of my vegetarian "friends" wouldn't eat the cooked vegetables because meat had touched the grill.

I have for the most part found vegetarians to be a little whinny.

That is amusing as I had always felt that vegatarians looked down on meat eaters, rather than the other way around. Personally, I do eat meat, however I certainly do not have any negative feelings towards "vegans". It would be nice if everyone could eat the way they want, and judge others by what comes out of their mouth, rather than what goes in!

I became vegetarian, no longer with the aid of fact i think of that is incorrect to eat meat, yet with the aid of fact i do no longer believe in intensity farming (cages, hormones, etc). it is likewise extra inexpensive (i became a unfavorable pupil), has wellness advantages (in spite of the reality that there are dangers too) and there are environmental factors besides (eg transport of animals). Now i do no longer eat meat with the aid of fact i do no longer like it! i'm no longer a preachy vegetarian inspite of the shown fact that, i do no longer think of that's useful. i will no longer be able to criticise a meat-eater as quickly as I placed on leather-based shoes, or drink milk (dairy products help the crimson meat marketplace yet no way would desire to I provide up cheese!). all and sundry has their very own place the place they draw the line, and could be left to enjoy their dinner in peace.

I haven't experienced this. I'm an omnivore (I eat meat AND vegetables).

I have worked with and employed many vegetarians and vegans. If approached right, this can be a healthy way to eat. I think it is fine and haven't minded accommodating vegetarian guests, within reason. I don't try to accommodate vegan guests but open my kitchen to them if they wish. My experience has been that some vegetarians (not all) and most vegans tend to be preachy, self-righteous, and judgmental. towards those who don't share their 'choice'.

They see themselves as morally superior and are not very tolerant of those of us who are not vegetarian and those that are not their type of vegetarian..

Mostly because vegan/vegetarians are frequently so very MILITANT!!!
They look down on us meat-eaters, even though in the bible God clearly gave all of the animals to man for food! (right after the flood)
PETA gives all non-meat eaters a bad name with their over-the-top protests and misinformation.

I could ask the similar question of why vegetarians and vegans look down on meat eaters.

I have never given grief to vegetarians or vegans, but received more flak from them because I eat meat.

You can't have double standards here.

I eat meat and you don't. Fine by me. Lke you said, it's a choice. You can eat whatever you want, I don't understand either why I should be bothered of what someone else chooses to eat.
