tive, what would be your choices and what would you buy and why? I own a 2003 Yukon..only draw back is gas mileage, but for its class it is good.....and a 2004 Silverado....need to slim down costs for retirement. Thinking of keeping the pickup. What would you do?

Do you want another truck, an SUV or a sedan/compact car?

I usually go to edmunds.com and research types there...for example:
A good 2007 truck: 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Large Truck
It has semi good gas mpg (for a truck), it got a rating of 9.3/10 and starts at less than $18,000
A good 2007 sedan: 2007 Acura TSX Midsize Sedan
It has good mpg and is rated 9.9/10 although it starts around $28,000 the highest it goes is around $30,000 so you get a lot of stuff with that price.
A good 2007 compact car: 2007 Toyota Yaris Compact Sedan
It starts at only $12,000, has good mpg and a rating of 9.5/10

Also I recommend a honda civic which starts around $15,000 but lasts forever if taken care of and has great mpg. I own a honda civic though so that might be biased...

Anyway check out edmunds.com to do your own comparisons

If they still make the VW Beetle, then that would be the car to get because it's the safest in a head on collision. Notice how it's shaped like an egg and eggs are the strongest from point to point. So, in a head-on collision, the arch can absorb a lot more energy than a normal car. It's also very cost efficient because it's a fairly small car, so it doesn't have a lot of weight. Weight is what makes a car gas efficient or not. Too much weight, like an SUV, and it's a gas guzzler.

You could consider the hybrids, but it's a lot more expensive than a regular car. I don't think you can make up the money you save on gas to offset the increase price.

Get a Ford Edge. It still seats 5, has room for luggage, and gets good mileage.
