I got my golden retriever/black lab mix puppy six years ago. She and the rest of her litter were being given away in front of K Mart. I found a website last night saying that this is now one of these new breeds of dogs. They are called Black Golden Lab Retrievers. I prefer to call her a dog lol. I got her before all of the designer dog fad came around. I got her because I thought she would be a good companion to my son. She has been everything I could have hoped for. I dont really care what she is ( designer dog, purebreed, mutt, or plain dog ) we love her. She looks just like the picture on the web page too. Tell me what you think about this new "breed". I just want to know if this is the new designer dog craze.

Oh, I love her no matter what she is. I got her knowing she was a mutt. I was just wondering if this is the new craze. And I have no intention of breeding, she has been spayed since she was 6 mos.

it is not a new breed it is a mixture of two types of dogs. it take a lot of time to became a new breed.. designer dog are mixed breeds to just some people like to sell them for more money.

EVERY mixed breed is a 'designer dog' - that is just the label scammers have put on ones they purposely bred to make money off of selling mutts to gullible people. Better to save a life of a shelter dog than encourage them by giving them money.

Enjoy your dog & don't get hung up on the silly labels!

I am glad to know you do not intend to breed her and that you love her regardless of her breed. I personally am against "designer dogs" and the backyard breeders who "design" them. It is simply an easy way for them to make money. I am a heavy advocate for animal rescue and the designer dogs are only contributing to the already growing pet overpopulation. I don't feel your dog falls into the designer dog category...I think she is your furkid and it should simply be left at that. Kudo's to you for taking her.

You have to go three generations of the same mix and have to be unrelated to get a designer dog
