Actually it started in Genesis 1.
Came into practice after the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus on the hill of Calvary.
"Started at around 30 AD, Christianity is based on the teachings and life of Jesus Christ. Christianity was founded in the first century in Palestine by the disciples of Jesus. Many missionaries spread it, despite heavy persecution, throughout the Roman Empire. Perhaps the most notable missionary was Paul. The various books written by Jesus’ followers after his death, called the New Testament, along with the Old Testament makes up the Christian Bible. The Bible holds all the teachings of Jesus on how all Christians should live out their lives." http://library.thinkquest.org/28505/christianity/intro.htm
Peter was not the one that started Christianity. Christ, alone, is the one who started it. Christ is the cornerstone of Christianity. Upon Him shall Peter build the church. It was NOT Peter as the Rock, Peter was a rock, pebble more likely.

Between 22 and 34 AD when Jesus did is active ministry (actully it was only a few years, but we are unsure of dates so this is a period when it most likely happened) and many people were affected by him, embraced his ways or followed him.
Formal chuches were made right after his death (26 AD to 34 AD) in Rome, Greece, Turkey.
Then these loosely affliated churchs were unified and turned into a strong force with firm orthodox beliefs, rituals and leaders by Constantine in 300-330 AD.
We are, of course, speaking loosely here as the term Christianity may not have been in use at early as 22 AD. But the INTENT was the following of the ways of JEsus, Christ.

Jesus founded Christianity when He appointed Peter to be His representative 'on earth'. Jesus told Peter that whatever Peter decided on earth would be so in heaven. Peter and the other Apostles were instructed to deliver the "good news" to people by word of mouth. His disciples were to visit people and minister to their needs, and talk to them. Jesus taught His Apostles many things, but He never told them to build churches or carry bibles. He told them to clothe the naked, feed the hungry, house the homeless, and visit prisons. That is what Christians are supposed to do, very few are aware of it.

I do not know what you mean by "Don's put any opinions on if you think God or Jesus is real." God/Jesus is very real. I just got finished talking to God.
The word Christian means, "Follower of Christ." Christianity started with the early Christians. We do not know the exact date because our calendar is off by about 30 years - either BC or AD.

Odd question. Maybe I've misunderstood.
However, it started in what we now call the first century.
Around the year 33 A.D.
It started in Jerusalem, spread throughout Israel and eventually the whole world.

IN the garden of olives, when Jesus said to Peter: "And upon you, I will build my church."
That was his funny sense of humor, because Simon was the least depenable of his apostles. He was the weakest link, and he knew it, so he called him a "rock", even though he knew Peter would betray him
Jesus was depending on Peter to be contrite about it. It was a hard lesson for him to learn, but he was like that from the beginning. Peter is one of the foundation stones of the church.

Some time after Christ's death, that was when they deified him.
Prior to that he was just a teacher.

If you don't believe Jesus is real then why the heck ask a dumb question like when was it founded.?...since christianity was founded by Jesus's death on the cross.
