This is about like asking who builds the best car or motorcycle. Some people sneer at all Jap bikes & won't talk about anything except Harley-Davidson's. Each manufacturer has it's proponents and detractors.
The original maker was Armalite, who passed the plans to Colt, who built most of the early M-16's for the U.S. and other governments.
Since then, clones have been produced by Armalite, Bushmaster, Rock River, and several others, one about as good as the other.
Bottom line, if one is asking advice toward purchase, before I would spend such serious coin on a "poodle shooter", I would consider more serious battle rifles such as the H-K 91(German G-3) or the venerable old FN/FAL, both a lot better choice of weapons. Even one of the AK-47 clones, especially East European types, are a better weapon, especially for the price, than the almighty "black rifle"(whisper it, the "Mattel Toy")

jp rifles, wilson are better than all named so far. By the way alot of blowhards like badmouthing the AR but look what is shot in competitions where guys can buy anything they want. Is it perfect? no. If I was in urban combat with small kill zones would I prefer the ak? yes. If I was in an area with wide kill zones would I prefer the m-14? Yes. If I was going to be transfering from long to short distances and want to carry alot of ammo would I go with the ar-15? Yes
The ar-15 or the civilian m-14 produced by springfield are far superior than any hk out right now. The Hk has a heavy bolt with a delay in its operation which gives you two recoil impulses. This makes follow up shots take longer. It is less accurate and overpriced. The ak is ok if you never shoot past 75 yards. The AK is more dependable. That might mean something if the ar-15 wasn't so dern dependable.

Colt is a fine gun but all AR15's are built off of the same blue prints. Rock River Arms in probably the most popular right now since they have the current government contract. But there's nothing wrong with a DPMS or a Armalite.

Armalite......they started it all in the 1950s with Eugene Stoner
I used to have a post-ban M-15A2 (from 1998-99) and sold it to rise money for marriage, honeymoon, and cruise.

Mine is a Colt, and I've been happy with it. Armalite is another good brand. I wouldn't take one hunting, though.
