I got my new puppy just 3 days ago. He is only 3.2 pounds. He is such a good puppy! The pet store I got him from used science diet and his vet also recommended science diet. So, now I have 2 bags of science diet puppy food but I have heard some things about science diet. I have heard science diet is full of fillers and it is not very good. What should I do? should I switch him? Which puppy food do you recommend? If I do switch him, how do I do it?
Thank you so much!!

I just looked at the first ingrediant in science diet and it is ground whole grain corn. Isn't corn bad? I can't find any real meat in the ingredients!

Science diet is a terrible food! So is Iams, Purina, Eukanbua, etc.
Dogs are CARNIVORES and do not need grains in their diet! Do to dogfoodproject.com and they have all kinds of information about canine nutrition to help you decide on a good food for your puppy. Vets barely get any schooling in nutrition so take what they say with a grain of salt.
Innova Puppy, Merrick Puppy....or a high quality all life stages food would be great, too. You'll want to switch him over gradually (the course of a week or so) and just keep mixing more and more of the new food in with the old until he's only eating the new food.
Good luck and like I said... dogfoodproject.com will help A LOT in your search!

I would take him to another vet and see what he has to say,in the mean time, get him some puppy dry dog food soak in powdered milk, and get soft and let him have a go of it,some times puppy dog food dry kind has a coating of milk already on it,if this is so,just add a little water and soften the dog food up where he can eat it,or put it in a blender. He will not eat much at first if you change his diet. Also give him cottage cheese if his bowels runs. When changing food thier bowels sometimes get loose,I used to raises dobermans and sell them, hope Ive been of help.

Science Diet is an expensive "crap" food. I wouldn't feed it to anything! I have had good luck with both Wellness puppy food and Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul. Out of the two of those foods, I think Chicken Soup is the better choice. It is less costly and has Chicken, Turkey, Chicken meal, and Turkey meal as the first four ingredients.
Good luck to you!

Just about any premium puppy food will be fine. If the pup has been eating S/D, keep her on it. It's a good quality food.
As your puppy grows, keep her on good food. The dog food that you buy at the grocery store is crap, 10% nutrition, 90% indigestible garbage that you will be scooping up in the backyard.

I think you should keep him on that diet your vet should know what he is talking about. If you decide to change the first day you mix 75%old 25%new second da you do 50% 50% third day you do 75% new 25% old then all together new. This keeps your puppy from getting an upset stomach.

I have a pug puppy, and I use science diet...and everyone always comments on her beautiful shiny fur...and I especially like that instructions on the bag telling you how much you should feed your dog and at what age, etc. My vet recommended this food for my dog...and I have absolutely only good things to say!

Science diet is good. But there is a dog food that is called something like Nature or something like that. It is expensive though. My dog is on Iams which is pretty good. If you switch him gradually add more of the new food to his old food over a week or so. If not he will probably get diahrrea

Go to a pet supply store & ask the advice of one of the sales associates. They should be able to recommend a puppy food that would be appropriate for your new little puppy. Enjoy!
