I note from your profile that you're 19, so 3 beers in an hour isn't too excessive. The amount of alcohol it takes to get drunk idepends, in part, upon an individual's body weight. Asians, for example, generally have a lower body weight than Caucasians, and therefore tend to be less tolerant of alcohol as a result. You can be ready for shots at any time, but go easy the first time around. Instead of shots, why not start off on cocktails (scotch & soda, vodka & tonic, etc.) instead? I have no idea why you have a burning throat after your three beers last night. Do you smoke, or have you picked up a cold bug? I don't think the beers are responsible for that.
Remember - drink moderately. There's nothing worse than a thumping headache the next morning!

Some people have a minor reaction to yeast. That can make your throat a bit irritated. It's no big deal.
They key to not over doing it if you are going to drink is, pace yourself and never do a bunch of back to back shots. You get drunk too fast, risk disorientation and may end up uncomfortably, too drunk.
Keep in mind one rule. One 12 oz. beer is equal to one shot in alchohol content, but sugars in the beer slow the absorbtion of the alcholol into your blood, so you may react more quickly to shots.
Just be smart, don't ever chug multiple beers or shots in rapid succession and you'll be fine. And always, always stop drinking for a while when you know you are drunk.
Drink water too, alchohol dehydrates you and dehydration is the main reason for hangover headaches.

I've never had my throat burn. I would give it till tomorrow so long as it doesn't get worse. If it gradually get's worse, or you notice something is dramatically out of the ordinary I would talk to a doctor. As far as shots go, you're ready when you're ready. There is no "scale". Just take my word for it, do one or two at a time, then STOP for a while. They sneak. You'll keep drinking saying "I'm not even getting drunk!" then you'll be throwing up 10 minutes later.

dont worry about it everyone reacts differently
shots and beer are way diff
shot have more alcohol so you will get drunk faster
beer is something you sip on and eventually youll start feeling it i can drink about 7 beers and not be drunk but everyones diffrent
since your a begginer i suggest not just taking shots because youll prolly puke it right back up
get some liqour and mix it with a juice of soda...youll get drunk and it wont taste bad
theres always something to make every liquor taste better
if you do take a shot have some coke to drink after the shot so the burning throat and taste will go away
oh to prevent a hangover b4 you go to bed drink lots of water of gatorade because in the morning youll be sick and your body will be dehiderated so just drink lots b4 bed and when you wake up and a greasy breakfast always helps me out

Everyone is different when it comes to drinking, Different things you have to keep in mind, what you drink and how much, some people cannot mix beer with whiskey, did you eat, your body weight. Don't be in a hurry to get drunk, enjoy have fun you are just starting out. Your body will tell you.
Besides who said anyone is normal when drinking everyone is just having fun. CHEERS!

Why did you feel that you had to get drunk? Drinking to get drunk is not normal and your body is telling you that. People who are forcing you to take shots are not your friends. They are alcoholics. You don't want to go there.
Find other friends.
