I used to burn a lot of incense, still do sometimes. I've thought of this too. I only use incense in ventilated areas, often outside because I find it discourages insects when I'm working or entertaining outdoors. Incense doesn't appear to be regulated in any way, and lots of it appears to be made in foreign countries that are not as strict about toxins as the us.
Good question!!

Mostly it is fine. It doesn't have anywhere near the amount of chemicals and carcinogens that cigarettes do. Still you wouldn't want to inhale a lot for a long period of time - anything burning will produce some carbon and emissions - they do't give off much - but in a small enclosed room you would be inhaling it in a more concentrated amount. So yes go ahead and burn incense but make sure the room is ventilated.

No, but just make sure the room is spacious or there is some type of ventilation or curculation somewhere. Burning incense in a small enclosed room might not be a good idea. No, it's not like secondhand smoke because cigarette smoke has over 100 other chemicals in it that cause great harm.
Blessed Be.

It could if you're burning so much that all you're inhaling is smoke. If you're burning only 1-3 sticks in a well-ventilated, spacious area, you're not going to be inhaling it like that. You're more likely to get cancer from inhaling the air outside with all the emissions from diesel fuel, second hand smokers at the local bar or somesuch. So I wouldn't say it increases your likelihood. Just use good common sense...

It's only made of plant matter and oils so I don't think it would be too dangerous to your health- I don't believe there's a cancer risk.

There's no risk of cancer, it might affect people's allergies and that's about it.
