Yesterday, I bought a used vehicle from a dealership & I'm wondering, if by law, I have a certain amount of days wherein I can rescind on my purchase.

Reason being: within 5 minutes of driving away in it, the "check engine" light came on. We took it to AutoZone to run diagnostics and a code that relates to the transmission came up. Another thing: the salesman said they do the "30 Point" check on all the fluids, etc..., however, @ AutoZone we noticed the transmission fluid was a quart low.

I am a car salesman in IL. The law is that once there is a money transaction and you drive the vehicle off of the lot then it is yours. If by chance the salesperson meets you at an off premises location or brings the car to your house you do have an out. I would suggest taking it back to the dealer and addressing these issues with him, contrary to popular beleif 99% of reputable car dealers will go beyond what is required of them to keep a customer happy. I will make one suggestion BE NICE! If you approach them with an attitude they are going to be much less likely to help you out. I have actually dealt with situations very similar to yours so I do know what I am talking about.

Most states do allow you to return a vehicle within a specified number of days, I sell cars here in Kentucky and you get three days.

Oh and btw the guy before that said something about lemon laws, they only apply to new vehicles, contrary to what most of the uneducated folk who answer questions on here might contend.

this would fall under the lemon law and unless the car has issues that were not disclosed to you, you own a new car.

its not like normal shopping....you can't buy a car today, try it out, and then take it back if you don't like it.

A car like a house is a major purchase....one that should not be done lightly or in a hurry.

If the vehicle was sold "as is", and most used vehicles sold like that - you have no rights.
DO AN INDEPENDENT PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION BY A LOCAL (!!!) COMPANY to avoid incidents like that.

Yes you can.. but you may have to get a lawyer involved, and have a good reason for doing so. "I can't pay for it" ain't gonna cut it.
