Providing you're already super-fit (but untrained in boxing). And would you be too old to go pro by the time you were good enough?

Ni, I am 53 and I will be starting as an AMATEUR boxer in July.

You are never too old, how dare you say that.

A person can be super-fit, but that may refer to the fact that they are only fit cardiovascularly. Boxing demands that many facets of training are in place such as muscle reflex and strength and not only cardio fitness. It also demands fast-twitch muscle which I understand people are either born with or not.

If you have the mentality of a boxer which is unique in itself, have quick feet and hands, are not a string-bean, you may have a chance at becoming an amateur boxer.

Since you didn't mention which weight division you are hoping to enter, and each division demands it's own set of winning characteristics, it's difficult predicting your possible margins of success.

Stay in tip top shape and train often. Find a good training gym and start now. It's a dangerous sport, but if you like it and are willing to put forth the effort, you should do alright. Some boxers are still boxing into their 30's..

It depends how tough you are. It also depends how quick you pick it up. Some of the best fighters arnt the best boxers but just tough guys. Some guys will get hit a lot like arturo gatti, ricky hatton and will still win with heart and determination.

No but in the UK I think you can only stay amateur until your 32 or 34 then you have to turn pro if you want to continue.

You're never too old to do what you want to do, even if you were 50 and it was something you really wanted I'd encourage you, lifes too short not to follow your dreams, good luck!

It's not a very salubrious 'sport' and rather old fashioned. You are too old to be a tennis player of any note though, if that helps.
