So, 1 week before I go on a vacation to paris, I wake up with a pain in my throat (today) First, I think the usual amount of times to get sick a year is like 2 or three, ive gotten sick (counting 2006) about 7 times already. Is there any meds for a poor immune system. Second of all, I am not sure if i have strep or sore throat. I woke up with my throat hurting, i doesnt hurt very much when I dont do anything, but it hurts when I swallow, garling salt water and eating halls helped a bit. Anyway, does anyone know if this is sore or strep throat, I dont have a fever or any weakness. Anyway, I am leaving for Patis next saturday (the 3rd) but I need to go back to school this week ( I want to be back by tommorow but tuesday or wensday is fine) does anyone know how long this usually lasts, and what else can I do to make it go away faster (I dont care about the pain, i already have meds for that, i just need it to be gone faster) Also, my mom said it might come back . how can i prevent it

Strep usually does not come with cold symptoms. (stuffy/runny nose..etc).
If you look in the back of your throat and if it a beefy red color and if it has little white dots on it, then it is problem strep. If not then it is a virus that has to run it's course.
My husband and children have been battling sore throats for over a week. Doctor said they were caused by a virus.
Vitamin C helped me. I took 1000mg a day and was over mine in 4 days. Good Luck!!

Does'nt sound like it. The common symptoms of strep throat include: 1. Severe and sudden sore throat without coughing, sneezing, or other cold symptoms. 2. Pain or difficulty with swallowing. 3. Fever over 101 F; (lower fevers may indicate a viral infection and not strep.) 4. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck. 5. White or yellow spots or coating on the throat and tonsils. 6. Bright red throat or dark red spots on the roof of the mouth at the back near the throat. 7. Swollen tonsils, although this symptom may also be caused by a viral infection. (In teenagers, mononucleosis can cause a severe sore throat that looks like and has symptoms similar to those of strep throat.) 8. It is easy to tell when you have a sore throat or a cold. It is harder to know when you have strep throat. Generally, sore throats are caused by a viral infection and not strep bacteria. Strep throat usually does not occur with cold symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, or a runny or stuffy nose. The more cold symptoms you have, the less likely it is that your sore throat is a strep infection. 9. In some cases of strep infection, a skin rash develops and spreads over the neck and chest and eventually over the whole body. The rash feels rough like sandpaper. This condition is called scarlet fever. Scarlet fever is treated with antibiotics, which usually lead to a quick recovery. Scarlet fever is not dangerous if treated.

The only way to tell the difference is to have a throat culture done. But, why don't you just go to your doctor for a check-up on the throat. Not only are you sick, but being cooped up on a plane to Paris with 300 other passengers and recirculated air is going to make half of them sick, too. Get Chloriseptic for the throat pain and get to the doctor. Strep throat is potentially serious, as the infection is staph, which can move to the heart if not taken care of. Good luck and Bon Voyage!

I've been through this many times myself. If it is Strep, you will have little white dots on the back of your throat or swolen glands on your neck. If it is strep, you will need some antibiotics. I tryed to ride it out w/o them and suffered miserabley until I got them, then they take a while to build up in you systom befor they get rid of it. If you can talk a Doc. into giving you them in a shot, it works much faster. Doesn't hurt. Its just a shot in the butt.

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html
