How about home made pastys.
Recipe for Cornish Pasty
Any good pastry may be used but it should not be too flaky as it'll leak nor too rich. A very useful pastry is:
1lb flour, 1/2 lb lard and suet, 1/2 teaspoonful salt, mix with water.
When pastry is made, roll out about 1/4 inch thick, and cut into rounds with a plate to the size desired.
For the filling use beef (I always use mince), potatoes, onions, and swede. Tradition states that the meat must be chopped and the vegetables sliced. Add a little salt and black pepper to taste.
Lay the rounds on the pastry board with half the round over the rolling pin and put in the filling, damp the edges lightly and fold over into a semi-circle. Shape the pasty neatly and "crimp" the extreme edges where it is joined between the finger and thumb. Cut a slit in the centre of the pasty, lay on a baking sheet and bake in a hot oven so it keeps its shape (approx 40 minutes at 450 F)

Home made burgers:
Crumble up some weetabix or other whole grain non-sugary cereal. Chop up an onion finely. Mix these with a beaten egg, add minced beef, salt and pepper and herbs if liked.
Shape into rounds about a centimetre thick. Grill on both sides until cooked through.

Cook the beef with some finely chopped onion, green pepper, and fresh or canned (drained) tomatoes. Drain off the excess fat, and put the meat/veggie mixture back into the skillet. Whip up 6-8 large eggs with a whisk in a seperate bowl, then over medium heat, cook the eggs on top of the meat & veggies. You can fry up some potatoes for a side dish, if you want, and serve the meat-eggs-veggies in tortillas or with the bread of your choice. It's delish w/hot sauce!

This recipe is for two pounds of ground beef so you can just cut everything in half
Joe's Special
Some say this famous San Francisco specialty was devised by a San Francisco chef as a variation on the Italian frittata. Others insist it was created as an after-hours snack by dance-band musicians of the 1920's.
A third theory attributes the dish to miners who frequented the city's riotous Barbary Coast district in the 1850's.
Whatever its origin may be, this hearty mixture of beef, onions, spinach and eggs makes a satisfying meal any time, day or night.
INGREDIENTS:
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 pounds lean ground beef
2 medium onions, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely minced
1/2 pound mushrooms, sliced, (optional)
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, fresh ok
1/4 teaspoon dry oregano, fresh ok
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 (10-ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry; or 1/2 pound fresh spinach, rinsed, stems removed,
and leaves chopped (about 4 cups)
4 to 6 large eggs, lightly beaten
PREPARATION:
1.Heat oil in a wide frying pan over high heat. Crumble in beef and cook, stirring often, until browned. Drain excess fat.
2.Add onions, garlic and mushrooms; reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are softened, about 5 minutes.
3.Stir in salt, nutmeg, pepper, oregano and spinach; cook for about 5 more minutes. Add beaten eggs. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring constantly, just until eggs are softly set. Serve with plenty of grated Parmesan cheese and perhaps hard crust Italian sour dough bread.
What to drink with Joe's Special? I'd open a good beer, probably an India Pale Ale.

My husband's favourite recipe he makes me is his Shepherd's Pie:
Cook about 5 potatoes to mash with a little butter for taste (no milk added) to get about 4 cups.
Chop 2 large onions
Brown your 1 pound minced beef along with the onions and 1/2 tsp savory, salt and pepper to taste. Drain any extra fat into an empty can
Layer in a baking dish:
Cooked beef with onions & spices
Pour 1 can of creamed corn over
Spread on top the mashed potatoes
Smooth potatoe top with a knife, making pretty designs and dot with butter.
Bake @ 375F for 20 min.
NOTE: Beef/fat drippings can be stored in the can in your freezer to prevent "spoiling" and then can be available to add future drippings from other meals. Once can is filled, just throw can with contents in garbage.
---------
My favourite, seeing there is only 2 of us at home now is meatloaf with this very colourful sauce to pour over the top.
Put 1 lb uncooked minced meat into a bowl and add about 4 shakes of garlic powder and oregano, 1 raw egg and about 10 saltine square crackers that have been pounded with e.g. your pastry roller in a ziploc bag. Mix all with your fingers - very gooey mixture.
Place into a bread pan that has tall edges to hold the sauce in place.
Bake in over for 1/2 hr @ 350 F covered with tinfoil. Drain extra grease with gravy baster to "suck up" grease rather than having to hold the actual hot bread pan and put drippings into can you previously started with the other recipe.
Sauce: (to prepare while loaf is cooking)
Mix in a separate bowl:
1/2 cup ketchup, 1/2 cup corn syrup, about 5-10 drops of worchestershire sauce, 2 dashes of oregano and 2 dashes of garlic powder. Stir then taste test - if too sweet, add a couple more drops of worchestershire sauce. If too bitter, add a little more corn syrup. This will look like a shiny red sauce which actually is very decorative when poured over your partially cooked loaf at its 1/2 hr point. Return to oven (uncovered) for another 15 minutes or until sauce is bubbling. NOTE: Every 5 minutes with a spoon take the loose sauce at the sides and re-pour back over the top of the loaf.
Slice your loaf into about 1/2" slices and place flat on plate & spoon over a little more sauce onto the individual serving.
---------
Another simple recipe is to buy those "Hamburger Helpers" at your local grocery store. They only ask for 1 lb of minced meat to complete the meal.
Hope you enjoy these ideas.

I`d do pies. Fry the mince with onions, mushrooms and tinned toms, add a couple of stock cubes, let it all thicken then chuck it in a dish and top with pastry. YUMMY!!
