if you signed up for the army and the next day had a change of heart do you have a right, or certain amount of time to revoke it. I know theirs other legal documents that allow a 3 day grace period to change your mind. This is very important for me to find out. Thank you!

Call your recruiter. Seems to be that when I joined the AF my Army recruiter boyfriend tried to get me out of the contract by telling me that I could revoke it, but I wouldn't do it. Make the call and find out.

if you signed the paper to join the army and then decide you don't want to go, you have until you ship to go to boot camp. once you go to boot camp you are in. there is no penalty, fine or anything else. the recruiter will try to talk you back into it though and ask why you changed your mind and so on. but you should tell the recruiter right away so they can discharge you from the dep and then you won't get harassed by them to go to functions or required activities that some dep programs have. good luck with your decision.

Regardless of what anyone tells you, you do not not fall under the UCMJ (uniformed code of military justice) until you arrive at the respective recruit training facility. Therefore, you are not truly legally obligated. The recruiter will attempt to pursue/harrass you to get you back on track (their *** is on the line) but there is nothing they can do. You can take all the oath ceremonies that they dish out at you (MEPS), but until the government starts paying you (boot camp)...you can back out anytime or even switch services. Don't let them intimidate you. If you don't believe me, walk into a Navy office and ask to switch over...see what happens.

You can change your mind up until the day you ship to basic. It will involve some paperwork and a pissed off recruiter, but if you really don't want to serve your country, then tell the army right away.

It depends on what you are calling signed up. If you have not gone to the MEPS center and taken the physical and chosen your A schools and done the final paperwork then you are still eligible to vhange your mind.

Curt's got it right. but it's bewildering to me that someone would sign up without thinking it through. I mean, it's the military. It's a totally different way of living.

Don't sign until you are ready.

But yes you can get out of your FIRST contract. The one you sign at MEPS to get into the DEP, you can get out of. **IMPORTANT** This does not apply to the National Guard. That contract is final and binding. For every other branch, you can get out of it until you sign on your ship date.
